Re: Long
Kicked 6 in the prelim.
Interesting his draft profile notes "Highly rated for his clever ball use and polish by foot".
I think good/smart coaches get the best out of players, and I think Long still has a lot more potential in him.

Re: Long
Every team should only have great players if they want to win the GF
The last few GF winners have 22 blokes ALL with a reputation of being ‘great players’ right!?
Do you only want St Kilda to recruit great players…
Or are you saying that we should stop wasting our time and money on fitness staff, development staff and specialist coaches??
What is the point of another thread on Ben Long where you just repeat everything you’ve already stated
You’ve posted 15 times in the last 2 years telling us your opinion about Ben’s weaknesses and highlighting his average statistics
You and Richo would get along really well. The whole idea is to develop his strengths and utilise them for the benefit of team
Sometimes you just need to accept average. There is a reason for an average. We actually have a few players who have similar average career stats.

Re: Long
Really good consistent players have their game above the shoulders sorted out. Long has skills but lacks a lot of discipline and needs to concentrate on the ball, not the man.

Re: Long
No
I just don’t really credit coaches for exceptional players performance that much
I also don’t blame them for average players performance
Coaches have a role to play - but it’s overstated
BTW
Don’t think I’ve ever started a thread on Ben Long
Except to say we clearly should’ve drafted Shai Bolton

Re: Long
Longy is surprisingly fumbly at a contest and agree, doesn’t get anywhere near enough possessions.
Forward is his best spot but doesn’t hit the score board.
I think he kicked 3 goals 11 behinds last year.
I know Ratten loves him but that’s likely wearing a bit thin.
In the scratch match on Friday, he barely touched it, despite playing with the side stacked with the better players.
Out of contract this year…watch this space!

Re: Long
Agree Mike if he doesnt have a really solid season this year I think he is in trouble. I believe I read that his name was thrown out there in the last trade period? If hes lucky another club might throw him a life line, but I fear this might be his last year at the Saints.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Sun 13 Feb 2022 11:48am Longy is surprisingly fumbly at a contest and agree, doesn’t get anywhere near enough possessions.

Re: Long
Could well be a make-or-break season for Benny. Hope he can find the type of form he showed in 2020. Would also like to see him start to mature and become more disciplined as a player.

Re: Long
I agree with those on here that post that Long has a lot of potential. And he has shown a bit.
Some of the goals he has kicked mark him as very creative.
Plus I am a big fan of players who are not afraid to let the opposition know he's there.
