"A vocal contributor" & "...appeared to be moving smoothly", I'm not sure that's worth the headline to be honest.

Re: Hannebery turns heads , and more items of interest
Personally, i don't care about Hanners achieving something pre season, he was recruited to play football and so far he has done very little of that
I'll praise him when he consistently plays for the Saints, not sits in the stands watching the game most weeks.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

It would be nice for the club to finally get some value out of his (Hannebery) accusition in 2022. Fully fit he is a great little player, plus playing the majority of the season would go a long way to the club having a reasonably sucessful year.

Re: Hannebery turns heads , and more items of interest
From memory, he was flying last pre season and was out for most of the year with a calf injury.
Probably one of the longest soft tissue injuries I can ever remember. Even Roo wasn’t out that long in 2010. Different injury, I know.
In the games I have seen him play, his skill level is elite. Even in the late season game against Geelong, he looked a cut above most players on both sides.

He's starting from a long way back. Has been a big disappointment so far. Like Wayne said, when he starts to deliver in matches I'll warm up a bit.

I'm still hopeful he can at least give us one good year & even if he does still a really bad decision to recruit him IMO , 3 years into a lucrative contract & what have we seen for our coin so far? SFA. You can sugar coat it all you want but unless he really has a break out year & can part of getting us a flag pretty much money down the drain . I will eat humble pie if that happens but I'm not holding my breath that's for sure

I can't help but agree with you bl. Let's face it, if the Dogs had not won the flag in 2016, their Boyd deal would have gone down as one of the worst in history. However, there's also a get out clause, no one could envisage mental issues curtailing a young player's career.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Fri 10 Dec 2021 11:10pm I'm still hopeful he can at least give us one good year & even if he does still a really bad decision to recruit him IMO , 3 years into a lucrative contract & what have we seen for our coin so far? We struck a massive deal for a true champion in Hannebery, unfortunately we struck it after injuries had begun taking their toll. We struck it with a club trying to off load his lucrative salary. We bought a car with issues that mechanics had not fixed.
Non of this is Hannebery's fault. This is why I wish him a very merry (& not so white) Christmas. I hope he plays 25 games for us in 2022 that culminates with Premiership & Norm Smith medals around his neck, all things being equal, he's good enough & deserving.

Re: Hannebery turns heads , and more items of interest
If we can get his body right he may have 3 or 4 good years of footy still ahead of him? If he has another season like this year, he should be forced into early retirement? Hopefully he can repay the clubs investment in him.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Fri 10 Dec 2021 11:10pm I'm still hopeful he can at least give us one good year & even if he does still a really bad decision to recruit him IMO , 3 years into a lucrative contract & what have we seen for our coin so far? Re: Hannebery turns heads , and more items of interest
The key to Dan having a great 2022 is him having an uninterrupted pre-season. The last three years he hasn't had that.
The guy took a haircut for the cause, so fingers crossed for a full uninterrupted pre-season for him.
He gets that, and he will play a full season I reckon.

Despite Hanner's polarising supporters' opinion, the reality is we are a better side with him in it.
Hopefully, Nick Walsh has got him right and Hanners eases back with his loads... if he and Gresham play at least 15 games in 2022 we probably make the finals!

Re: Hannebery turns heads , and more items of interest
I don’t think that that’s the polarising part though. To the best of my knowledge, I’ve never read a post that suggests that Hannebery isn’t clearly top 22 when fit. The issue has always been his ability to get on the park and the significant doubt people have had on his capacity to do so.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Sat 11 Dec 2021 10:23am Despite Hanner's polarising supporters' opinion, the reality is we are a better side with him in it.

Re: Hannebery turns heads , and more items of interest
He’s paid very bloody well to do exactly that. Thats the baseline starting point and expectation, not something we should be patting him on the back about as though that’s enough. Not his fault that his body is stuffed. The club’s fault (Lethlean) for recruiting him. Doesn’t mean he’s not a fair target for criticism. 15 games in 3 years at what, $100 k a game is a rubbish return on investment.

Hannas does not figure in my A team
Too many disappointments.
If he gets and stays fit and forces his way in fantastic, but until it happens he remains in limbo.
Would love him to have a huge 2022, but history says it is unlikely

Re: Hannebery turns heads , and more items of interest
There's no doubt that if Hannebery has overcome his chronic calf issues he will be one of the first players selected in the team.
Even at age 30 I am confident that Hannebery will be a huge contributor to the success of our side not only for his on-field leadership but his vast experience and skills to get the ball into attack. In form he is a ball magnet and fantastic user of the ball, one of the best if not THE best on the list.

Nothing against the bloke and sure he tries hard and wants to get back into the side but let’s face and call it for what is ..it has been a massive failure
Turning heads ??? Really?? Until he turns our heads in the home and aways the club can jam this fluff piece
