Paddy Ryder and his Achilles
What is the story and how many games would you bet he'll play in 2022?
https://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/ ... 073a356294
I notice he had spells in, 2015, 2018 (twice) and of course with us too... but I haven't gone digging any further.
Of course you can't trust club or even his own propaganda...he even said, he 'had it down pat in one of those interviews'.
I am thinking somewhere between 10 - 13 games in 2022.
What is your take?

18+ Games.
Absolutely kill it.

Even if he stays injury free I hope we play him for 3 games, rest for 1 throughout the H&A season. If we end up in the finals it's absolutely crucial to have him fit and firing

Agree completely plus later in the season maybe start getting some games into our trainer ruckman, Heath depending on his progressmad saint guy wrote: ↑Wed 01 Dec 2021 2:58am Even if he stays injury free I hope we play him for 3 games, rest for 1 throughout the H&A season. Re: Paddy Ryder and his Achilles
it's one thing to want to rest him for every fourth game, it's another to have the quality out there to enable it.

Re: Paddy Ryder and his Achilles
I think we have accept that our backup rucks will have to rest both Rulyder and Marshall throughout the year. The chances of either one playing every game (plus finals?) would be very slim/ near impossible

I think that will depend on who/where we are playingmad saint guy wrote: ↑Wed 01 Dec 2021 2:58am Even if he stays injury free I hope we play him for 3 games, rest for 1 throughout the H&A season. If we end up in the finals it's absolutely crucial to have him fit and firing

Re: Paddy Ryder and his Achilles
Indeed.
How many games did both Paddy and Holla play together, as in, at the same time on the field, last season?
a) 3
b) 7
c) 10
d) none of the above
I have no clue, but it doesn't seem like many.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Very Important that we use him wisely . He's no spring chicken but so pivotal to our on field success so IMO he needs A FIFO swing 3 on 1 off .

Re: Paddy Ryder and his Achilles
I think Campbell will be a perfectly capable backup ruck. Definitely a huge improvement on Hunter.desertsaint wrote: ↑Wed 01 Dec 2021 8:42am it's one thing to want to rest him for every fourth game, it's another to have the quality out there to enable it.
I'd go with this setup all year round if possible:
Ryder/Campbell 60% ruck, 15% forward, 25% bench
Marshall 40% ruck, 40% forward, 20% bench
Having King, Marshall, Ryder/Campbell, Membrey and Sharman all rotating through the forward line at various points will inevitably get us some very favourable mismatches inside 50.

You don't mean you'd pick all three surely..mad saint guy wrote: ↑Fri 03 Dec 2021 4:48amI think Campbell will be a perfectly capable backup ruck. I assume you mean you'd rotate Cambell and Ryder in that role.
I think they'll ruck Marshall more when Ryder is absent.

Re: Paddy Ryder and his Achilles
Is it time King learned how to take a turn at rucking? After Ryder retires it would a huge advantage to have Marshall as number one ruckman with Max King spelling him, particularly if Ben King is also in the forward line.

Re: Paddy Ryder and his Achilles
Hopefully he's practising the craft from time to time. No need to see him in the centre square in 2022. Perhaps some contests in the forward line, again from time to time.
We have bigger, maturer bodies for a reason, that's to give King & Heath time.
His time may come, as will his brother's, when required but no need to rush him. Better he becomes the best key forward in the comp.
