Think its time for a Board shake up!!
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Millions wiped off Debt
Expect Thomas to counter punch shortly with a headline that craps on the club for their financial management. The media will have already made contact with Thomas for quotes and requests for interviews about his thoughts on the club debt.
One curious piece of information about the $3 million debt reduction was money from a donor who supports the club.
Anyone want to guess how much of the $3 million was donated?
Does it surprise Damian Barret was the journo behind the puff piece representing the AFL.

Possibly Gudinski's estate. I'd also guess the Bassats and Ryan himself as he seems quite selfless. Fingers crossed there's more on the way via sponsorship or a new coterie to keep donations anonymous.

Grant could put in 3m no questions asked....no media fanfare.....no demands for Board positions....I can dream
Any muppet suggesting the club is t headed in the right direction after 7 long years in beige Richardson land and who think now is the time for Board upheaval via the media ought to have their head read.

The consistent commitment from and rise in Membership has been the greatest donation by far.

Apparently the club is in free fall and we need the dentist and GT with “one more good fight” in him to shake us up...

Re: Millions wiped off Debt
The cynic in me suspects it was an anti Thomas type working in collusion with the current board (possibly the same enity), who is aligned with Basset/Finnis and Damien Barrett who represents some heavy hitters at the AFL who share a collective dislike of Thomas.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Wed 03 Nov 2021 9:03pm Possibly Gudinski's estate. The puff piece was clearly a well orchestrated counter to the recent Thomas incursion and so details around the donation and the spruiking of the donation in the puff piece are fascinating.
Ryan is in the Thomas camp it would seem and so I doubt he would donate money at this stage to make it appear like the club is managing it's finances well.
My curiosity about knowing how much of the $3 mullion debt reduction is a donation would help me understand better just how well the current board is managing debt.
Trying to remain objective about this whole Thomas incursion.

No. Certainly not from the Gudinski estate.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Wed 03 Nov 2021 9:03pm Possibly Gudinski's estate. I'd also guess the Bassats and Ryan himself as he seems quite selfless. Fingers crossed there's more on the way via sponsorship or a new coterie to keep donations anonymous.

Might have been donated by GT and his millionaire business buddy, feeling a bit philanthropic after their windfall.

some people here are so irrational in their fetid hatred
A donation is not increased revenue or even sustained debt reduction
For all we know it was part of that 60mil lotto last week

Re: Millions wiped off Debt
Well, we don't have the same benefits as Hawthorn, Carlton, and Melbourne, with their $20 million+ poker machine revenue each year, do we?. You don't think Melbourne and Carlton have generous rich types coughing up the dollars at a regular interval? A bit naive and mean spirited to target your own club when most others are getting plenty of cash gifted to them by various means. At least we're not almost entirely funded by the AFL like Gold Coast and GWS. We don't have the benefit of being in a two team state like South Australia and Western Australia. We also got the crappiest stadium deal and got stitched up by the AFL 20 years go (along with North Melbourne and the Bulldogs). Not to mention the rigged fixturing favouring the wealthiest clubs (in the past 10 years, we have played 30 more interstate games than Collingwood)
It's not a level playing field, and if we paid $3 million off our debt, I don't care how we did it. The reality is that our supporters stuck fat during the pandemic while other clubs lost memberships.

It's not a level playing field and it could get a whole lot more un level now we are an assistant club. The unassisted could pull away quickly and the gap between the haves and have nots could increase significantly more than it already is.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Thu 04 Nov 2021 5:55pm Well, we don't have the same benefits as Hawthorn, Carlton, and Melbourne, with their $20 million+ poker machine revenue each year, do we?. To strip down a $13 million debt also means revenue is diverted away from spending on things like winning a flag.
So while we paid down $3 million on our significant mountain of debt, the question I have is, how much was a will be spent on footy and the pursuit of winning a flag, is this what Thomas also has his eye on?

Could be a point because the footy department was apparently cut to shreds in his time.Vortex wrote: ↑Thu 04 Nov 2021 8:01pmIt's not a level playing field and it could get a whole lot more un level now we are an assistant club. Re: Millions wiped off Debt
Just remember the mighty Jeff Kennett proposal from May last year…
….
Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett believes the AFL should set financial benchmarks after the coronavirus which, if teams don’t hit, could see them “evicted” from the competition.
…
You don’t want to be evicted…
And for all we know, Jeff’s Casinos were helping the AFL ??
For a bit of love in return..Remember he put his hand up to be Melbourne President!!

Re: Millions wiped off Debt
Jeff Kennett is a cane toad. Has there ever been anyone so full of himself in AFL ranks? The man is despicable in every sense. Thank goodness at the Saints we don't have to put up with his Hitleresque leadership.

mmmmmm
(our girls rule the W league in memberships)
there's a seeming structural foundation of longevity
within this 'strength'
if we work it well
our milk when winning
our meat when not
(an accessible strength/survival template)
gotta leverage that !!... our supporters stuck fat during the pandemic while other clubs lost memberships.

Re: Millions wiped off Debt
I’d take Bassat or Kennett long before considering a snake oil salesman with cliches and little real ideas for change other than tokenism and media grabs to constantly bash the club.
Have seen Kennett up close - he’s a hard task master but can achieve outcomes and doesn’t suffer fools.
Tad long in the tooth now but light years ahead of bingo buzzword Grant.
Actually I’ll keep Bassat - like the measured approach that doesn’t scream “me”

Really!
I was next to him at Tulla one day on my way back to the land of the Rising Sun. He looked ridiculous and proud, puffed up chest just expecting me to say, 'Hey Jeff, hi Jeff'..*
I turned away..
Funny that he screwed over the school system in '94 and that led a lot of us grads to check out.
*That's what i think anyway..
THose 92-97 years...what horribleness..Crown, mates, Grand Prix, mates, Sell off the state, mates, enterprise...
(not saying that Trades Hall didn't have too much clout before..but)

Re: Millions wiped off Debt
Yes cause Trades Hall and all their mates employed in an over bloated public service full of overpaid fat cats did us so proud during Covid quarantine...we still have no answer who signed the contract but we DO know Trades Hall ensured they were consulted when they were handed out....shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 06 Nov 2021 12:17amReally!

Eddie Macguire?
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.
