I think its a good recognition of the clubs current recruiting team. Highmore taken at #45 and now rated at #7 is a feather in their cap.

If I understand what they’re doing here, Cooper Sharman with 45 points in 5 games would be rated above them all. When you divide by 3.5 instead of 5 because he spent a game and a half on the sub bench, he was miles ahead of everyone else.

Totally agree, hopefully he can continue that form into 2022. Teams will start to put a bit of time into him, so he cant expect things to fall into place like they did this season. Having said that he is another example of how much our recruiting has improved. Hopefully Max Heath will become another prospect of their sucess?kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 24 Oct 2021 6:42pm If I understand what they’re doing here, Cooper Sharman with 45 points in 5 games would be rated above them all. That I get, but I suspect the sample size is nowhere near big enough to engage in that activity in a meaningful way.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sun 24 Oct 2021 4:21pmI think its a good recognition of the clubs current recruiting team. And, there's no way any team drafts a mature age recruit in the top 10 of ANY National Draft

Re: AFL re does 2020 draft Highmore # 7.
True but its just a bit of a fun media exercise they do in most off seasons. Every draft for a number of reasons has there sucess and failures. There are plenty of examples - Tim Kelly was taken as a mature aged player at #24 in the 2017 draft and if they did another draft now he would be in the top 10.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Mon 25 Oct 2021 9:29amThat I get, but I suspect the sample size is nowhere near big enough to engage in that activity in a meaningful way.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sun 24 Oct 2021 4:21pmI think its a good recognition of the clubs current recruiting team. This is the 2020 Draft - Coop was not part of this Draft Pool!!!kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 24 Oct 2021 6:42pm If I understand what they’re doing here, Cooper Sharman with 45 points in 5 games would be rated above them all. I know that, but as with the Rising star, the AFL doesn't want to acknowledge the existence of mid year draftees.

It was a different world then but we took Michael Frost from Footscray with pick 8 of the 1993 National Draft. Does anyone know why?Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Mon 25 Oct 2021 9:29amThat I get, but I suspect the sample size is nowhere near big enough to engage in that activity in a meaningful way.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sun 24 Oct 2021 4:21pmI think its a good recognition of the clubs current recruiting team. The Saints weren't very good at drafting back then, they took Jody Arnol with pick 3 in the 1989 draft.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Mon 25 Oct 2021 2:34pmIt was a different world then but we took Michael Frost from Footscray with pick 8 of the 1993 National Draft. Just add that to the List of things the Saints haven't been good at over the journey.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: AFL re does 2020 draft Highmore # 7.
Yep we were a very poorly run and administered club for far too long (basically forever). Thankfully that has mostly changed but we always seem to playing catch up in some area whether it be the board, financial management, stadium deals, membership, coaching, list management, recruiting, player development, welfare or the strength and conditioning of players.Wayne42 wrote: ↑Mon 25 Oct 2021 3:23pmThe Saints weren't very good at drafting back then, they took Jody Arnol with pick 3 in the 1989 draft.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Mon 25 Oct 2021 2:34pmIt was a different world then but we took Michael Frost from Footscray with pick 8 of the 1993 National Draft. It seems the club can never get all parts working effectively for any length of time. 80 or 90% right wont win you a premiership in professional competitions.

Drafting was a less exact science in those days. I’m just wondering was Frost delisted? And then we thought he was worth our first draft pick?

Re: AFL re does 2020 draft Highmore # 7.
It seems like Frost was delisted by the Bulldogs after 2 seasons, we drafted him with pick 8, The Bulldogs drafted some dude named Brad Johnson with pick 11 and Norf drafted a dude
named Adam Simpson with pick 14.
Frost only played 11 games for the Saints, Frost then played at Yarraville and then Werribee where he won the JJ Liston Trophy.

I think Frost had played an excellent game against us, which was not an unusual event for an opponent.

Yep, I think 56 players were on the list back then..so Frost not considered good enough for a list of 56 at dogs but was taken with our first pick in the national draft. Our recruiter would have received a pay rise and a new 10 year contract for this smart recruitingkosifantutti wrote: ↑Mon 25 Oct 2021 5:47pm Drafting was a less exact science in those days. Most people from the other AFL clubs burst out in hysterical laughter when Frost's name was read out, and why wouldn't they.Freebird wrote: ↑Thu 28 Oct 2021 12:59amYep, I think 56 players were on the list back then..so Frost not considered good enough for a list of 56 at dogs but was taken with our first pick in the national draft.
