I hope the BF poster is right - and next year will be Rotten's last. With his arrival we completely capitulated to the idea that we can't develop our players. We've just given up on that altogether. Some of them seem to work harder than others in their own time and good on them for that - I'm thinking Sinclair in particular. But the rest? And their skills and focus gradually drop off the more they forget whatever it was they used to do at the club they came from.

How can you tell if a player hasn’t progressed as much as they should have?

We all know Luke Ball didn’t turn into a Chris Judd (he kept his hair) but who is to say these players are not hitting their purple patch, but their purple patch just happens to be way lower than we thought?

Apart from that..injuries and suspensions, off field troubles aside, how do we know?

Wow thats harsh, we have one year not playing finals and people start wanting the coach gone! What would have happened to Melbourne if they had of sacked Goodwin after their 2019 season? Ratten is a very good coach and the club have finally got their development group sorted. I love the stability and passion he brings so IMO the club should extend his contract for another couple of years, even if Clarkson is available.
