King has another swipe at the club!!!
Its a quiet media week so lets drum up some stories about St Kilda, they are always easy prey. Honestly it's getting monotonous with DK having another swipe at the club! How does this clown keep getting air time in the print media, just like GT they are the rent a quote clowns!
Gees I hope the players and coaches read this s*** and it burns and they come out to prove all these doubters wrong next season.

Re: King has another swipe at the club!!!
So...in that time he speaks of we've drafted and recruited and entire football team with currently only 3 players over the age of 27
Paton Howard Wilkie
Coffield Battle Clark
Hill Crouch Byrnes
Butler Sharman Byrnes
Higgins King Marshall
Ryder Jones Hannebery
Bytel Highmore Kent Long
Yes, we've made a few mistakes along the way, but the real damage was done in the 2009 to 2014 period.
Similar mud was flung at Melbourne a couple of years back

Well, King just confirmed something we all knew. That when it came to the St Kilda football club he hasn't a f****** clue.

Looks like it's our turn. The media have bashed Carlton all year and now they're bored and sniffing around for something because there nothing to talk about.

We recruit and we are wrong we go to the draft with pick 9 and two highly rated NGA players and we are wrong.

Re: King has another swipe at the club!!!
Why should anybody involved with the club or who supports the club take offence to negative comments or criticism or even just plain ole expressions of observation.
Because really hasn't it been invited by what was delivered in 2021, we were atrocious and limp in way too many games, I'm still astounded by how disinterested the players looked in the thrashing by the Dogs as exhibit 'A'.
It's bizzare that this time last year everyone in the industry thought every aspect of the club was in excellent shape, from the board to the boot studders, we just couldn't pat ourselves on the back hard enough.
Yes injuries didn't help but the club will implode next year if we have a relatively healthy playing list and we are still rolling over to regular thrashings.
I believe the list build is delicately balanced and will go conquer or cliff in 2022 with no in between enough to keep the wolves from feasting on the carcass.

I'm hoping Ratten and the players are bottling this up for next year.
I actually don't mind a bit of heat coming from media goons like King, it will drive the boys into a big Preseason

Our first half of the year was, by any measure, deplorable. Not just the losses, but the manner of them. Even the win against North was ordinary for it's last quarter fade out.
After the bye, however, things turned around.
We were hungrier and more competitive. There were no thrashings and only one really poor performance (v Carlton).
Our forward line functioned and we beat good teams away from home.
We were on a par with Sydney, Brisbane, Geelong, Port Adelaide, and West Coast in the second half.
We embarrassed Fremantle.
I would have loved another crack at the Dogs and Dees just to see where we really sat.
I'm focussing on the 2nd half of the year and the prospect of a fully fit Marshall, Ryder, Gresham, Jones, and Billings. I'm looking forward to the progression of our young mids and the return of Paton. I'm looking forward to having Geary and Ross both 100% fit but not requiring either of them to play in the 22. I'm looking forward to having a gun team at Sandringham because it's full of players that can't get a run in the seniors because the incumbants are playing too well.
Our recruitment has been just fine. It was being lauded as amazing for the past two seasons. What's changed? A poor first half of 2021? Some media "experts" questioning everything. Where did they have Melbourne and the Bulldogs finishing?
Richmond's performance shows what happens when key players are injured.

Re: King has another swipe at the club!!!
Yes there have been some excellent recruits. Hannebery however, as the top or second top earner, has been rubbish. Hard to be glowing about recruiting when the Ace in the pack has been limp(ing).Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Wed 20 Oct 2021 3:40pmI maintain that last season was squarely split into two for us.Vortex wrote: ↑Wed 20 Oct 2021 1:46pm Why should anybody involved with the club or who supports the club take offence to negative comments or criticism or even just plain ole expressions of observation.

No fan of King but you'd have to have to be super-sensitive to be offended by his analysis here. He's spot on. We've sacrificed development and said see you later to players like Hind while importing a lot of overpriced mature-age recruits. It's a short term strategy and if it doesn't pay dividends soon we'll be spending another 5-6 years in the wilderness while teams like Norf overtake us.

Re: King has another swipe at the club!!!
The Saints let go of Hind because they had better forwards at the club, they didn't realise he was an AFL standard Half Back Flanker, they know now.
Probably another thing that annoys GT.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: King has another swipe at the club!!!
Read this on BF and thought it summed up my views..,if we have a decent injury run next year (and survive Grant Thomas destabilising) then a lot of people, like King, are gonna look very stupid....
Lewdogs.
“I think we'll surprise a lot of people next year. General consensus seems to be that we'll struggle to make the finals. I'd be shocked if we don't make the finals. If we don't make the finals then Ratten will be gone so we'll get a fresh start to see what the list is capable of. That's not exactly a win-win but it's where we are at in my opinion.
The thing that gives me a lot of hope is that we have shown we can beat good sides. We never did that under Richo. That suggests to me that our best is good enough. If we improve our fitness and consistency we will be a very good side next year and I don't see why we can't improve over the next few years because we don't have that many old players.
The idea that we've topped up too early is silly in my opinion. The list needed an overhaul. We would go through seasons beating no one. Last year was a good season, this season was crap but it was still better than any under Richo because we showed that our best is thereabouts. That's the definition of a learning year.
Honestly can't wait to go the footy next year and see what guys like Clark, Higgins and King can do for us. Really bullish about them and a lot of other players.

The Saints would only sack Ratten at the end of 2022 if they'd decided to follow the Carlton model.

Under Richo we actually did we beat Richmond by ten goals & they went on to win the flag. But I do like your optimism & if things go well we might be a final 8 chance but a lot of things would have to go right IMOTeflon wrote: ↑Wed 20 Oct 2021 10:59pm Read this on BF and thought it summed up my views..,if we have a decent injury run next year (and survive Grant Thomas destabilising) then a lot of people, like King, are gonna look very stupid....

Re: King has another swipe at the club!!!
First person to go if we don’t make finals in 2022 should be Lethlean and Finnis closely behind him (not sure how Matt is still there)
I reckon the Hannas deal along with the decision to restrict Jack Steven from leaving which were both at the end 2018, have cost us the chance to be a top 4 team. Not sure how much we should also blame Richo, but these two administrators were ultimately responsible.
We also paid way too much for Brad Hill in terms of draft picks, but also more importantly in terms of salary. We could have had Treloar on our list this year. He nominated St Kilda and we couldn’t accommodate him even though Collingwood were going to pay us 200 or 250K per annum off his contract

Re: King has another swipe at the club!!!
What player development have we sacrificed? All the kids that deserved a game have played, its hard to develop the other players when they have hardly played for two seasons.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Wed 20 Oct 2021 6:18pm No fan of King but you'd have to have to be super-sensitive to be offended by his analysis here. People seem to forget that thanks to the AFLPA all clubs have to pay 95% of the TPP, regardless of who you have on your list. So what would you have the club do? Have them pay ridiculous $$$ to under performing kids or bring in some senior players? Hind was offered a contract at St Kilda and its not the list managers fault that he wasnt played as a HBF. In hindsight Im sure Ratten wishes he did, but Sinclair had his best year ever and surpassed anything Hind acheived.
Hannebrey hasnt worked out, but he hasnt affected any younger players development. Hill is worth his $$$ and will improve with the side, he like most of the side need to improve his fitness leading into the season.
You must have a poor opinion of the younger group coming through, if you believe we are going to spend 5 or 6 years in the wilderness? So you dont believe Steele, Marshall, Wilkie, Gresham, Paton, Battle, Clark, Coffield, King, Byrnes, Bytel, Butler, Highmore, Higgins, Connolly, Heath and Sharman are decent players and have a huge future? When we add Ben King to the list next year, plus the kids we take at this years drafts I believe our future is looking very bright. Its definitely not the doom and gloom you or David King are portraying!

Re: King has another swipe at the club!!!
Yes, with the exception of Goddard (who took some time) our last GF+standard team boasted a young nucleus that made a big impact very quickly Riewoldt and Koschitzske (Rising Star Winners), Hayes, Dal Santo, Milne, Fisher. A bunch of All-Australians there. Today we have only one All-Australian. I'm hopeful the likes of RoMo, King and Wilkie get there but talk is cheap. Meanwhile we've got the underperforming Hill on big bcoin for at least another three years, and a posse of other foreign legionaires aged 26-plus. Norf went back to the well, copped a wooden spoon for their trouble, and cleaned up at the draft table. As long as they have good development (something the Saints have been sorely lacking) nthey should be a real force in 3-4 years, if not less
