Jarrod Brander
Just been delisted by the Eagles and is a delisted free agent.

Re: Jarrod Brander
He is a yes for me.
But he fits in the exact category as Battle.
He doesn’t know where is best position is.
Slightly undersized as a KPP.
But fit enough to be a winger, just not good enough at it.

Re: Jarrod Brander
If we do sign Brander, Ratts may finally get the tall wingman he has been craving?

Re: Jarrod Brander
Definitely similar in parts to Battle. A bit more gangly, he moves more freely than Battle (who was clearly restricted by injuries and sub-optimal conditioning in 2021) but Battle is a more natural footballer.
He's interesting in many ways. This quick video sums him up that he's a bit of a dichotamy:
I can't tell if he's more athlete than footballer, or the other way round. He's a fraction awkward, and a bit slim. And his kicking is a bit hit-and-miss. But he also chooses good, instinctive options. He has a little bit of something but it's hard to tell what. He's had a go up forward and defence, even adding kilos to his frame (https://www.afl.com.au/news/86010/eagle ... nsive-post).
He's an intriguing prospect. I wouldn't be surprised if he made it; a team like Sydney would really back themselves to develop him. But he's also got a lot of development ground to make up. I can see why he was let go.
I wouldn't be averse to bringing him in - possibly even as defensive support as much as a back-up forward. My guess is we won't, arguably given Mason Wood has stuck around and Cooper Sharman has come on.
That said, if we only take three on draft night, we're going to have a lot of list spaces free, and we do need KPP support. They'll be kicking his name around as a possibility.

Re: Jarrod Brander
According to his stats on AFL.COM he goes by 65.7% by foot which is considered above average so not quite sure where you're coming from.

Re: Jarrod Brander
A big nope. We already have plenty of others of that type, and have just added another in Sharman.
If we wanted him we could have gotten him for cheap in the trade window, and didn't.

Re: Jarrod Brander
A chaos kick 40 metres to a contest is an effective disposal - not always considered a good option - but it is a stat
AFL Stat Glossary wrote: A kick of more than 40 metres to a 50/50 contest or better for the team or a kick of less than 40 metres that results in the intended target retaining possession.

Re: Jarrod Brander
I think its just his kicking action that looks terrible - people make the assumption that he is a poor kick. He actually kicks like a lot of the Irishman that have come to the game late. He is originally from Mildura so you would think he has been playing AFL all his life, but throws the ball in the air and kicks like a soccer goal keeper.
In any event he wants to get to a club where he can play the 3rd tall forward role, which probably counts us out.

Dont think so if Battle size, unless coming cheap for depth. Behind Howard, Wilkie, Highmore, Battle.

He’s s***
That’s why he’s been delisted
Don’t think he’s played a decent game at AFL level
Not a KPPs arsehole

Re: Jarrod Brander
Is he more of a key defender?
Difficult to break into the west coast key defensive post with Barass, Sheppard, McGovern, Hurn, ahead of him
If Howard goes down then we will be short in numbers and short in height
Could be useful and only 22

Re: Jarrod Brander
A lot of talls just don't seem to cut it.
Brisbane have delisted Connor Ballenden who is 22yo, 198cm and 96kg.
Same draft as Brander.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Jarrod Brander
Yeah. I think that was a cracking draft in hindsight.
I remember at the time that I didn’t want Brander or Ballenden because I didn’t want a KPP. Happy to grab Brander and Naish as free swing DFA’s though.
We get those 2, and add them to Clark, Coffield, Paton and Higgins (even throw in Constance for good measure), we could rebuild the team solidly from the 1 draft.

I honestly believe that if we were to grab all 3 Brander, Constable and Naish, that it would work out for 2 of the 3. Just not sure which 2.

Re: Jarrod Brander
Not to mention that the youth dynamic and depth of our midfield group would be shifted instantly along with Pick 9 Windhager and Owens, all at bugger all cost.diddley wrote: ↑Tue 19 Oct 2021 9:03amYep. Re: Jarrod Brander
For me there are three questions we need to ask?
1. Does he walk into the best 22?
2. Is he a Back up Key Backman?
3. Is he a Back up Ruckman?
For me these are the three areas we need to look at for any DFA.
The answers are no, no and no.
Pass for me.

I think Constable might be worth a shot. Why? Coz I'm an armchair expert........diddley wrote: ↑Tue 19 Oct 2021 9:03amYep. That’s the one. Bigging yourself up there mate. An airchair expert! I wouldn’t even consider myself that. I’d be an airchair amateur. Don’t take anything I say on here as the right thing to do.st.byron wrote: ↑Tue 19 Oct 2021 11:23amI think Constable might be worth a shot. Why?
