So, in some ways it is too late now

Post: # 1928672Post Bowey Boy »

Well in recent years, all of the other struggling clubs have won the big one. In some ways this devalues the winning of a premiership. I used to love the idea of having the wood over my mates who followed the Swans, Cats, Dawgs, Demons and co. Now all the Melbourne Teams have won in relatively recent times, well to a 58 year old like me. Whilst I never expect to live to see us win, I am not sure it matters as much as it would have now anyway.

Are you serious??????

So you barrack for St Kilda to lord wins over other clubs?

Do you enjoy Steak because others have to eat hamburger mince as well??
Do you want to drive a Ferrari so you can look down you nose at Mazda Drivers?

The Holy Grail is a Cup - for the sake of the Cup - not because you feel better than others - it is for the success!!!!

GYAUC!!

How did Brett Bowey's son end up at Melbourne?
Was he ever linked to us?

Think Brett played around 70 games so under the revised Father Son requirements. You would think we must have known about junior. Continuing my bleet, we have never been blessed under father son arrangements like Geelong and others. That may change in a few years.

Yes another 15 would have been nice but couldn't have 2 jockey sized players in one team - Danny Craven the other . He is a very good ball user

Weren't we going to pick him but Dees got in first?

Looks ok but plenty of young players play well in a GF and don't end up doing much. Too early to tell.

One flag makes us unique and notorious. I hope I live to see the day.

Can’t say I get this
I understand the pessimism...it haunts us all
But us winning a flag has nothing to do with anyone else
The way I see it is (despite Richmond, then Melbourne getting out their violins cause they’ve “done it hard” after 10 or so flags...) there is only 1 club in the AFL that has consistently under achieved.
1 club with more wooden spoons than any other ..
The TRUE laughing stock of the AFL (we have the nicest colours IMO) and everyone’s second favourite team
That’s us.
We are the toughest nut to crack for success in AFL history- we have a litany of failed skeletons at the door who got us close....but no cigar then they too felt our curse
1 supporter base who has been sneered at and laughed at by wealthy clubs for so long
Only once in recent history were we the enforcers (09) and even then we blew it and the curse struck again
You barrack for St Kilda because you want to be in that number on that day when we break this hoodoo and when we do (if it happens in our lifetime) you party like Hayleys Comet has just come back because that’s the rarity of the situation
Until then just keep moving forward, one foot in front of the other ...believing.

Teflon - I have a distinct recollection both of a Saints flag and Halley’s Comet and I can say strongly that Halley’s Comet is very overrated , but a premiership is not ! I will not be alive to see Halley’s Comet again … but geez I hope I get to see another Saints flag .

No it will never change.
The AFL will be monitoring our father-sons.
So if we have a Daicos or Darcy type the AFL will change the rules to allow other clubs to steal our sons.
But then after a few years they will say the abolition was not a success and revert back to allowing other clubs their father-sons.

Yeah mate I get your point of view I'm not giving up & I will keep hoping until the day I die or the day the Saints die. If we move or merge I suppose I will still hope they do well but I won't be the die hard I have been for almost 60 years . I had a mate who was a die hard Fitzroy supporter & he told me when Brissy won the flag he was pleased but still felt hollow inside . I suspect I would feel the same.

I think we were keen on drafting Bowey.

But then we exchanged second round picks with Richmond as part of the Higgins deal.

Melbourne swooped in and nabbed Bowey.

We just need to extract the best from every individual on our list - and have a clear plan around the club, embraced by all, to win a premiership, as that's what Melbourne did. We've spent too much time in recent years fiddling around the edges without a clear focus for success.

Wasn't he in one of our junior programs along with Peckett's and Milne's
boys.
