Well Done Melbourne
I know this is a saints site but I am wrapped for Melbourne. Their supporter have so many loser characteristics that we have and to see them and speak to friends celebrating is great.
Many said we are next , I resigned myself in 2011 that it will not happen in my lifetime. 2009 we choked and 2010 we nearly pinched it . 97 the stars aligned against us from Round 22 on.
like WB of 2016 and Swans 2004 its good to see the sufferers get a win rather than the entitled cheque book clubs of the past - many of who are struggling now and I love that ( Carlton, Essendon, collingwood)

Re: Well Done Melbourne
Very happy for Dees supporters, I thought the players celebrated and included the fans better than I've seen before.

Re: Well Done Melbourne
When Melbourne lost a few late games in the home and away rounds including the game against the Bulldogs in Round 19 a few people started having some doubts. Maybe they were more interested in getting miles into their players legs rather than a few more home and away wins. They turned it around pretty quickly and there were some KPI’s that they worked on for the last few rounds leading up to finals
They were the number 1 team at stoppages and clearance and they had the balance right with a strong defensive mindset, but also one of if not THE best team when it came to goal scoring. I think the betting agencies and tipsters got a wake up call in that game down at Geelong in Round 23 when they stormed home and fought back to win from an 8 goal deficit.
They certainly TIMED their run to perfection and hit the finals in red hot form. I loved how they took the full squad over to Perth too so there was this competition for spots (perceived or real) right up until each final including the Grand Final
So what does that mean and what does it prove. When you have all the ducks lined up and you are relatively injury free….Everything you plan for has to take into account the assumption that you will make it to the big dance.
I suppose it proves that when you are pretty much guaranteed a top 4 finish that it is pointless NOT to start focussing on finals. It’s ok to lose the McLennan trophy if it means that your focus and your ultimate aim is the Grand Final

Re: Well Done Melbourne
Really. On a Saints forum.
Stuff Melbourne and all who sail in her. And the other 16 Clubs.
You think they care about us or appreciate the forelock tugging. They and the others wish the worst for us - don't forget that.

Just highlights the standards we have on this site when we cant appreciate another club achieving some sucess after such a long wait!

The quality of teams and people is shown both at the point if highs and lows.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Mon 27 Sep 2021 3:27pm Just highlights the standards we have on this site when we cant appreciate another club achieving some sucess after such a long wait!
While one should never be a good loser as it is something not to be good at (mind you we are definitely the national champions) ,it isn't weak or defeatist to acknowledge and recognise opposition's performances. If it is good enough for the opposing captain to acknowledge the better team I dont see what the issue is for supporters of a mob who weren't even good enough to make the finals congratulate the winners.
Some however still are in the era of give them nothing, off the ball hits are ok and having a water break is for the weak.

Re: Well Done Melbourne
Congrats on here are fine, very woke, but I cant stand Melbourne. They are tankers and the way both sides play for free kicks, which was a really pathetic look on GF day, makes me sick.older saint wrote: ↑Mon 27 Sep 2021 4:46pmThe quality of teams and people is shown both at the point if highs and lows.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Mon 27 Sep 2021 3:27pm Just highlights the standards we have on this site when we cant appreciate another club achieving some sucess after such a long wait!

I'll acknowledge Petracca, he was superb. But if they had been punished for tanking instead of being fined for not tanking they wouldn't have their 2 best draft picks. Should have lost 14 and 15 frd picks.

I'm in the give 'em nothing team and I make no bones about it or an apology for my stance.older saint wrote: ↑Mon 27 Sep 2021 4:46pmThe quality of teams and people is shown both at the point if highs and lows.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Mon 27 Sep 2021 3:27pm Just highlights the standards we have on this site when we cant appreciate another club achieving some sucess after such a long wait!

There are 18 teams in the competition and my feelings for 17 of them range from pure hatred( Filth) to mere disdain.
I don't however believe off the ball hits are OK and have never had that view. Any players involved in them are cowards IMHO.
I am ambivalent about water boys or girls, not breaks, We got along fine without them back in the day.
I acknowledge it was a different game then though.
My view on this subject is, if a team beats us, fair and square without maggot interference, I will congratulate them unreservedly.
But Melbourne or any other team beating another AFL team, not St Kidla, Who gives a rats. Certainly not me.
Don't like my attitude? Again. I should care less.
Look mum, no swearing.

Re: Well Done Melbourne
Well done on the AFL placing Jackson and Roos to save their sorry asses
Well done to their recruiters (under the watchful eyes of Paul Roos) for picking best available talent in the National Draft
Well done to Cho for bringing in Mark Williams (I'm assuming Alan initiated or was the person mainly responsible for Choco's appointment)
Well done to the Saints hierarchy if they are watching and taking note of the Premiership winners every year and trying to learn from them
