Peter Ladhams?
AFL WHISPERS: Following reports that Peter Ladhams will be on the move this trade period, it has been suggested that he is keen to get to the Saints. With Paddy Ryder likely to retire at the end of 2022, this makes a lot of sense.

Re: Peter Ladhams?
Another whisper is the Saints will be minor players in trade week because they want to draft in kids.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Peter Ladhams?
Wow you wonder how do they get it done, with their salary cap & expected draft points deficit this year?

Re: Peter Ladhams?
I just went over to the PAFC Bigfooty site for a look. The common consensous was he is coming to St Kilda. But its amazing how delusional some supporters are about their own players. One punter seriously suggested we should give up pick 9 for him, others were implying he was being traded because of his off field indiscretions.
Who knows the truth? But if we can get him for next years 2nd round draft pick and get him playing consistent footy, he would be a solid pick up!

Re: Peter Ladhams?
Still has a year to go on a decent contract doesn’t he? We don’t have a heap of trade capital to use, so might depend on how keen port are to trade him more than anything

Re: Peter Ladhams?
The latest reports suggest our cap is looking pretty good and not as stretched as people thought. I wouldnt have thought he would be on huge money at Port in any event? The club has said they wont be 'big players' in this years trade period, but that was before Ladhams became available - so who knows.amusingname wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 11:28pm Still has a year to go on a decent contract doesn’t he? Re: Peter Ladhams?
Would be a good get based on needs, our midfield can't operate well without good ruck service it would seem. If it aint this guy I hope we can land an AFL ready ruckman, or almost AFL ready.

Re: Peter Ladhams?
LIke the idea . Quite young and can take Ryders role in 2023 . Both Ryder and Marshall have had injury issues also so plenty of opportunities available in 2022 also. One year left which we would have to pay and but could then manage that with a new deal beyond.
Fringe rick at Port I would think 3rd round pick with some steak knife switches

Re: Peter Ladhams?
He's played 32 games in 3 seasons, including 17 this year, sounds a bit more than fringe on those stats.older saint wrote: ↑Fri 24 Sep 2021 6:52pm LIke the idea . Didn't he play FWD/Ruck this season, not saying he starred but Port preferred him to Hayes all year.

He played really well in the weeks that Lycett was suspended.Wayne42 wrote: ↑Fri 24 Sep 2021 8:13pmHe's played 32 games in 3 seasons, including 17 this year, sounds a bit more than fringe on those stats.older saint wrote: ↑Fri 24 Sep 2021 6:52pm LIke the idea . Would be a more than handy acquisition.

Re: Peter Ladhams?
Agree if we are not going after Ben King this year, then Ladhams should be a priority. Next years 2nd pick should get it done. If Port want a pick in this years draft we should be able to trade for one of Richmonds 2021 2nd picks. Get in done Gaggs & Simon!!Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Sat 25 Sep 2021 11:15amHe played really well in the weeks that Lycett was suspended.Wayne42 wrote: ↑Fri 24 Sep 2021 8:13pmHe's played 32 games in 3 seasons, including 17 this year, sounds a bit more than fringe on those stats.older saint wrote: ↑Fri 24 Sep 2021 6:52pm LIke the idea . Re: Peter Ladhams?
Long as it doesn’t hinder Bing then great
Port will want decent comp with a year to run....they ain’t bad at the table....did similar with Howard
IF he takes too much of our salary cap then no
Go cheaper back up options (no point paying a fortune for Ladhams if he’s in the twos most weeks)
GWS have Finlay? maybe cheaper an upgrade on Hunter but able to fill in as needed
I’d also be timing Heaths game times over next 2 years
Go hard at Bing

Re: Peter Ladhams?
Rowan Marshall was RU best and fairest and had a break out year in 2019 as the solo ruckman. With some minor chop out from Josh Bruce.
This year he played his best game as the solo ruckman
I think he thrives in that position
Rowan is nowhere near as good a forward as he is a ruckman

Re: Peter Ladhams?
That’s great but the chop out option in Hunter for much of this year was a liability (ok in Freo game but suspect they stuck the queue in the rack early).B.M wrote: ↑Sat 25 Sep 2021 1:37pm Rowan Marshall was RU best and fairest and had a break out year in 2019 as the solo ruckman. Ryder is a far better tap ruckman and our midfield looks far better with his service. However, I think we’ll get 10-15 games from him and his Achilles could go any tone leaving us exposed as young Max ain’t ready.
So you pay more for Ladhams who has proven capable forward as well
OR
You go cheaper noting it’s an upgrade on Hunter you want with Marshall doing most of the work
Option 2 leaves you with more $ and draft capital for Bing
I’d go that way unless Ladhams comes cheap enough
I think another KPD and mid is more important than spending a fortune here though

Re: Peter Ladhams?
At some stage we are going to have to find a replacement for Ryder. Ladhams has a year to run on his contract at Port and I dont believe Ladhams he would be huge dollars?
If we are going all in for Bing this year, then perhaps he can become the 2nd ruck option if required. If not we definitely need a ready to go ruckman to step in when either Marshall or Ryder are unavailable.
Hunter was simply not competitive and gave very little forward and when rucking.

You know it all Budgie, tell us!
<1 day ban for baiting>
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.
