Re: News on a couple of former saints players
Thought Bailey Rice was punting?!
Both would be good local footy players, that’s about it?!

Re: News on a couple of former saints players
White was a good kick, and not bad overhead, but that’s about it
Not the smartest bloke, had no idea about professionalism
Bailey had the body of a local cricketer, not a league footballer - he could play a bit but lacked commitment it seemed

IMO both were just not good enough for AFL but will be pretty handy at this level & I have nothing but admiration for both for giving it a crack . AFL is a tough gig

Glad when those two were moved on, list cloggers unfortunately.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Or ... just more victims of our utterly disastrous excuse for a Development Program for God only knows how long?

Spot on about White. Several times at Sandy I observed him being given specific simple instructions. He always asked for more information. Not the sharpest tool in the shed!

Re: News on a couple of former saints players
Bailey is still at North Carolina Charlotte 49ers.
He hasn't played a game yet ( they're on game 4 of the 2021 season).
I think he will get dropped after 2021.

Follow the link from Minneapolis.
Click on stats.
Be sure to look at punting, not kicking.

Ok that's coolkosifantutti wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 7:37amHe’s played all three games.
The official school footy team page lists his stats for all three games as zero.
I guess they need to update?
Is his kicking field goals or punting?
I know he was working on both.

You need to scroll around a bit to find it.SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 5:06pmOk that's coolkosifantutti wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 7:37amHe’s played all three games.

He’s punting.
17 punts at an average of 41 yards.
I’m not sure if that’s good or not.

Re: News on a couple of former saints players
That's very good. Also only 1 Touch Back (out the end of the field). And no Blocked Punts.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 6:50pmYou need to scroll around a bit to find it.SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 5:06pmOk that's coolkosifantutti wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 7:37amHe’s played all three games.

Re: News on a couple of former saints players
White had the physical gifts and skills to make it but it sounds like the application just wasn't there. Rice just seemed to lack the athletic ability to ever establish himself in the AFL.

Taken from the OP article
"White is close friends with former St Kilda player Bailey Rice — they grew up together, lived nearby and were drafted together.
Rice is currently in the US pursuing a gridiron career but will play with Devon Meadows when he returns next year. It’s yet another boost for the Panthers.
“He will a hundred percent be playing footy with us,” Hendy said."

Re: News on a couple of former saints players
Definitely, 41 yards is a great punt. Great punts have 2 elements....very high in the air, over 35 yards long...allows defense to get under and stop any run.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 6:50pmYou need to scroll around a bit to find it.SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 5:06pmOk that's coolkosifantutti wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 7:37amHe’s played all three games.

37 Bailey Rice, Fr., P
A true freshman, Rice is a former Australian football player who handled all punting duties for the 49ers in 2021. He averaged 42.2 yards per kick, which is the third-best in school history. He had five kicks of 50+ yards, including a long of 65 yards, and landed 14 punts inside the 20. He had just two touchbacks in 40 punts and 19 fair catches as the 49ers punting unit held opponents to just 2.75 yards per return, which was the best in C-USA and 10th-best in the FBS.
