So we are saying B&Fs are worthless now?!
Is that’s because it doesn’t support your opinions
I’d say coaches voting on how players are performing every week is the BEST indicator of quality of actual performance.
What players and coaches really respect are players who, when they run down the race, you know what you’re gonna get!!!
Players like Gary Rowan who play one good game per month and three s*** ones are reasons teams lose games… passengers
Players like Jimmy Webster who, when they play ALWAYS give a gut busting 100% committed effort… they are players who win you games
Like I said earlier, it overemphasises not missing games, as no player in the top 10 played less than 20 games.
So if that’s the award you want to look to, great, but it’s not an accurate representation of who made the biggest impact.
To a certain extent - if you play 22 games - well done - you have done what you set out to - be a good player and do it consistently. I am not demeaning that - what I do not like is that the majority of our top ten only achieved an average of 'did what you were asked'.
In an award that is offering (albeit unattainable) 440 points FOR EVERY PLAYER it seems disappointing that only 2 achieved 150+ or just over 1/3 of the votes on offer.
I would rather that top ten of the award are players that have achieved better than 'did your job'. I feel that too often this is the accepted standard at St Kilda - 'Oh well - you tried.' F@rk that - I want 'Well done - you busted your guts.'
As I said earlier - I am not demeaning anyone - as they have more skill in their little finger than me - but seriously please don't accept mediocrity - it may have flown in the 80's - I want us to be an uncompromising battalion - led by Captain Steele.
It is easy - award 3,5,7 whatever votes per game - but not 88 - if you are best on - be best on - if not - Thank you for doing the job you are paid for.
I want 22 Steeles playing for St Kilda - 22 players who hurt like my Avatar after a loss - 22 players who want to pick up the team and the supporters and carry us all to the promised land!!!!
I am over waiting
