Re: Petracca and Bont
Best two players in the comp right now and Melbourne and Bulldogs the best two teams by some way IMO, despite the Bulldogs few weeks of wobbles at the end of home and away.

Re: Petracca and Bont
If Bont played for us in the first year instead of Billings - would we have finished last on the ladder therefore giving us the Petracca/McCartin dilemma??
Answer - probably yes - a first year Bont would not have changed St Kilda's fortunes that year

Re: Petracca and Bont
That if we don't run last we need Melbourne to be as silly as us in order for Petracca not to go before our pick!bangaulegend wrote: ↑Sun 12 Sep 2021 12:57amWhat do you mean?

Re: Petracca and Bont
Would be great if we could let the Petracca/McCartin and Bont/Billings thing go. Melbourne picked Trengove and Scully over Dusty and now they're playing in a GF. Bloody good on em.
Let's focus on what we can do rather than what we didn't do. We've got a solid list that needs some tweaks. Hopefully we can follow Melbourne's lead and really challenge next year. We should take heart in what they've done this year.

McCartin may not have worked out - but that was more relating to the Concussion issues
Billings is still a handy player - there have been some other Howlers bigger than Billing/Bont [edited due to error - was Petracca] - see:
- Tambling/Franklin
- Watts/Nic Nat
- etc

Re: Petracca and Bont
1/ Billings was not in the same draft as Petracca
2/ Most agree the Billings over Bont is only poor in hindsight and most at the time would have selected Billings - that is conceded.
McCartin on the other hand was poor!!! If 95% of fans get it right and the recruiting gets it wrong - that is poor!!!
When looking at drafts - look at the player we got, was he an obvious selection at the time? Did they turn out ok
Look at the 2006 draft
We took Armo instead of Frawley and J.Riewoldt
- mistake
In 2007
We took McEvoy over Danger
- a fair enough selection at the time!

We also took McEvoy over Rioli. Not a fair enough selection at the time. In fact I was f****** angry. Still am.

Probably more annoyed that we offloaded McEvoy for Acres and Savage
McEvoy would have captained StK

Pissed off with that too.
A case of the pelican s*** helping out his mates over at the Hawks to the detriment of his employers, the St Kilda footy club.

I reckon if you pulled up 2014 threads there would be similar comments

Surely there is a statute of limitation thing on these "poor us" threads going into perpetuity. If political posts and lack of respect can be banned how about hopeless sterile loops about ancient times. Sooooo boring. Apologies if the wounds are still fresh for some, but for heavens sake give it a rest.

Re: Petracca and Bont
There's acknowledging our history. And then there's dwelling on it. A week rarely goes by when someone on here doesn't bring up McCartin/Petracca and Bont/Billings.
I totally get the frustration. Those picks were wrong in hindsight. But it gets to a point where you've just got to acknowledge the mistake, hopefully learn from it and then move on.

Re: Petracca and Bont
Agreed, there is zero constructive in these threads. Just the same comments being regurgitated again and again (I am aware the hypocrisy of me making the same comment here!).Yorkeys wrote: ↑Sun 12 Sep 2021 4:54pm Surely there is a statute of limitation thing on these "poor us" threads going into perpetuity. I am certain the people who made the call at the time know they picked the wrong player on the evidence available now.
