Re: Mason Cox
A lot of people still remember why we picked Hannebury...
1) We were forced to spend the money by the AFL and our club was not attractive 60%
2) Hannebury is a mate of the chief 20%
3) Hannebury might be a leader and add some IQ 10%
4) Hannebury might add some 'image' to our club 5%
5) Hannebury might recover his fitness and play 22 games 5%
OK.
So the above is pure b#ll, but you get my drift.
If we are forced to spend at the very end, we could do worse than Cox IMO.
How many games do you expect from Marshall and Ryder in 2022?
Based on last year just gone - 13 each, and not at the same time. Maybe 6 at the same time.
How many do you expect from Kingy?
19?
Due to the rise of Sharman and Highmore - and to a much lesser extent, the acknowledgment that Wood can be solid citizen up forward injuries aside, we have 'reason to believe' we don't need another marking forward.
But things can change.
Just imagine Lever and May next year facing the Saints.
Butler King Cox
Higgins Shaman Membrey
with the smaller wings running in there.

Re: Mason Cox
Never read so much delusional stuff
Cox is NOT a ruckman, yes a bit in 2017 and 2018 but an average of around 3.5 hit outs per game for the last 3 years (I would imagine forward line hit outs) does not a ruckman you make. In fact in 2021 he averaged 6 ruck contests per game
He is a dud of a footballer, for a start he does not get to enough contests and for the most part gets lead to the ones he does get to
For a forward of his size he should be getting to every contest possible and getting it to ground.

The point I make about Marshall and Ryder is that I do not know how many games they'll be on the grass together (not smoking it..lol)
So Marshall may not be a drop in forward.
Hence, back up, Cox.
With Higgins and Butler, we can capitalize on his marking contests more than Collingwood could..
but the main point is, no, def not ruckman material.

However my point still stands, he does not get to contests
Averages under 4 marks per game and 2021 2 1%ers per game (which is appalling)
I will be furious if we recruit him, go for McLean who is young and has promise

Re: Mason Cox
As a minimum contract to be the 4th ruck option / 5th tall forward option surely he is better than Hunter and McKernan.
Hopefully you can get someone who is equally down the pecking order/delisted but is better to fill this role.

Re: Mason Cox
Correct... I rate him as better than nothing but if we get one semi-decent option as a backup then it reduces what limited appeal he hasawesome_days wrote: ↑Thu 09 Sep 2021 4:12pm As a minimum contract to be the 4th ruck option / 5th tall forward option surely he is better than Hunter and McKernan.

I’m thinking of the game where Hunter was beaten around by the Richmond short midfield type that went into the ruck. Looking for someone that would be an upgrade on that performance

Re: Mason Cox
I would rather see us offer a contract to B.M rather than Mason Cox. At least B.M understands the game!
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

I didn't realise Ben Dover posted here.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Mason Cox
Can think of far worse tall forward / part time ruck options as a stop gap.
McKernan and Hunter spring to mind.
Cox is a good mark and a very good set shot at goal.
93 goals from 76 games with an accuracy percentage almost 69% is not to be sneezed at.
Do we have another forward anywhere near 70% accuracy?

The last thing we need are f****** filth cast offs. Where did those pricks finish. 17th wasn't it. And he still couldn't get a game with them.

I'm not against the idea of rookie B listing him. Surely Collingwood counts as another planet or something.

Re: Mason Cox
He couldn't get a game because Darcy Cameron is better. That doesn't mean that Cox offers no value at all.
I couln't care less who he played for. We took Carlisle and Ryder after being at the Essendon footy club through the whole drug cheating phase. I hate Essendon way more than I hate Collingwood.
I would have taken Treloar in heartbeat last season if we could have. They have a number of players that I'd take.
He's out of contract, and would come dirt cheap. It'd be even better if they delisted him and we got him as a delisted free agent.

Re: Mason Cox
You are not trying to equate Carlisle and Ryder with that yank spud are you? Surely not?
I'm sticking by what I posted above.
But peace brother. Not worth arguing over and I don't think the saints are that stupid anyway.
