Institute a ban on anyone associated with recruitment talking to prospect parents.

Getting off to a flyer is so important. We need to build some momentum that we never achieved this season.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sat 21 Aug 2021 7:00pm 3. A big preseason to hit the season flying. (Be much fitter than we were at the start of this year)

I just had a look at the HS players out of contract list and saw that Mobor Chol is an Unrestricted Free Agent. I didnt realise he had been around that long, would definitely be worth having a go at as an UFA.
The other UFA is Wallis from the Bulldogs, I wonder if he could find his midfield form again? Would be a handy mid who could go forward.

11. Kick accurately for goal
12. Win enough games to guarantee finish top 4 = 16 games or 15 games with league highest percentage.

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
I would not aim for top 4 next year and I will suggest that rather than go for a gun recruit and screw up the future i.e. hill and Hanners. Rather lets go to the draft and recruit great young players (harder said than done i know) and not trade away future years picks as we are always playing catch up with round two picks.
we unearthed some gems this season and some fringe players have stood up big time. Always like Jimmy Webster, Bytel and Byrnes got some much needed games, Connoly and Clarivino got a run. And dont get me started on Sharman. What a find.
Not saying draft in a key defender if we can get one or a bargain basement player then sure, but for the most part lets hit the draft this year, not trade ways our top ten pick (depending on father son, academy compo etc) and plan for more than 2022 whcih with the current team I am already excited about

This!
Also a better run with injuries.

Excellent post.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sat 21 Aug 2021 7:00pm What do we need to make top 4 next year?
1. Trade in a competitive ruckman/forward.
2. Trade or draft outside speed and skills. (20 games from Hannebrey would be terrific)
3. A big preseason to hit the season flying. (Be much fitter than we were at the start of this year)
4. Some luck with injuries. (Paton, Gresham, Marshall etc able to play out year)
5. Trade or draft another 195-200cm defender. (Schlensog or Skinner)
6. Some fresh Assistant Coaches bringing in leading clubs IP.
7. A competitive VFL side to assist develop kids.
8. Have a blinder at the draft/s, adding players that will play 100 games for the club. (Josh Goater, Judson Clarke, Windhager, Owens, Peris)
9. Be on top of Covid and have crowds back at Marvel.
10. Saints supporter/s members break all time attendance records.

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
1. Replacement for Ryder
2. Tall Defender
3. Young talent
New Assistant Coaches are coming.
We need to bring in some young talent. It may not help much next year, but the Saints need to be in it for a Dynasty. Not just one year. Topping up with rubbish will provide us with a half hearted team of has beens looking for a superannuation kick.
Matt Crouch WAS All Australian, Club Best and Fairest and had few injuries.
Inside mids start declining after 27. Once the injuries come it is down hill from there (example Hannebery).

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
He is another inside mid who would want big $$$. We need mids with break away speed and slick skills eg Bontempelli, Petracca, Neale, Shuey even Hopper has more of a balanced game. Another who is out of contract and was showing some of his potential late in the season is Brayden Fiorini from GCS.saynta wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 6:21pmWasn't bad in his last game. 22 possessions. Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
Highly doubtful we'll be able to trade in another ruckman when it's undoiubtedly the top priority of Geelong and a few other clubs.
And don't want to see another overpriced midfielder mercenary.
Forget it. Go to the draft.

Geelong would want a No1 ruckman we dont need that, we have Marshall, plus Ryder for another year.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 8:40pm Highly doubtful we'll be able to trade in another ruckman when it's undoiubtedly the top priority of Geelong and a few other clubs.

Chol will leave Richmond as an UFA and it was reported that we are heavily into McLean from Sydney. Sydney have a really tight salary cap and have Armatey in front of McLean. So I have faith we will definitely have a number of ruck/tall forward options in the pipe line, that wont cost heaps trade wise.
I also think whoever the club targets midfield wise (if at all) will be an upgrade considering on what Dunstan, Ross or Billings have been reportedly paid in recent years.
