What do we need to make top 4 next year?
What do we need to make top 4 next year?
1. Trade in a competitive ruckman/forward.
2. Trade or draft outside speed and skills. (20 games from Hannebrey would be terrific)
3. A big preseason to hit the season flying. (Be much fitter than we were at the start of this year)
4. Some luck with injuries. (Paton, Gresham, Marshall etc able to play out year)
5. Trade or draft another 195-200cm defender. (Schlensog or Skinner)
6. Some fresh Assistant Coaches bringing in leading clubs IP.
7. A competitive VFL side to assist develop kids.
8. Have a blinder at the draft/s, adding players that will play 100 games for the club. (Josh Goater, Judson Clarke, Windhager, Owens, Peris)
9. Be on top of Covid and have crowds back at Marvel.
10. Saints supporter/s members break all time attendance records.

Get super fit. Stay fit and healthy. Pick up a gun mid in the draft who can make a mark in 2022. Marshall and Ryder to play every game. I can't see how we can secure a 198cm CHB, so Josh battle to CHB

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
I shudder to think the club is planning to trade in more mercenaries. We have nore than enough of those already.
Teams that have gone big on youth, like Norf, will leave us i the dust in a few years' time.
I say we should go big on youth too. Trade for higher draft picks if necessary.
Only exception -- Ben King, who's young and motivated enough to be considered a new draftee.

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
Paton, Coffield, Clark return to 2020 form...surely not too much to ask of 21 year olds
Gresham to stay fit
King picks up from where he left off and adds a few kiios of muscle
A big year from Ryder
Natural improvement from B.B.C. (Byrnes, Bytel, Connolly)
Maybe a CHB, or Battle is just given that spot to make his own

I dont think he is much of an upgrade on Dunstan, plus he would be asking big $$$. But we are St Kilda so anything could happen.

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
Matt Crouch won a B&F in a team that finished top of the ladder
How the hell can he be compared to Dunstan? He was AA from memory too.
Dunstan has had 1 top ten finish (9th) in a s*** team.
Injury prone
I think he played a hundred straight games at one point?!
He’s injured this year, just about every gets injured at some points in their career.

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
Having said that, not really the type we need.
He is a massive upgrade on Dunstan though. I believe he averages 28ppg over his career… Dunstan about 20

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
Finish low enough this year to get a decent fixture
Find a way to make Marvel a fortress again (W/L ratio this year has been poor)
Find a second gear or ability to flex a few different game pace/styles
One more KPP defender
No injuries to key players
No individual effort will change the team, only a combination or group improvement will make a dent.

A big list shake up, recruiting quality not shite.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

A miracle.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Not much more. Very close. Need to nail those nearly games rather than stuffing them up. We ran good sides bloody close with debilitating injury list. Natural improvement, more clever drafts & new assistants, tasol. Go Sainters!

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
I’m going to add...
We need to be a little clearer in our structure and game plan. Stop moving players all over the ground, Battle if he stays needs a position, Wilkie needs to be the third tall back not the second, Coffield needs to play smaller as opposed to taller... and for the life of me, anyone who plays as a forward pocket needs to have more strings to their bow then I chase hard... don’t want to see 2-3 limited small forwards in the same team again.
Add to that... our home ground is Marvel - that requires fast mids with sublime disposal and significantly less players with highly erratic disposal. If you’re going to be in the midfield as a player with mediocre disposal, then as an extractor you better be close to Crouch levels of disposals or be an aggressive damaging freak like Jones when he’s on.
Can’t carry 3-4 slower paced, erratic disposal types
Ratten needs to figure out and fix whatever is happening that sees us turn up and knock over an inform Brisbane at the Gabba and then not show up vs Carlton the following week.
Finally... depth. Turn the list over 7-8 minimum need to go, NO MORE INJURY PRONE PLAYERS

Re: What do we need to make top 4 next year?
He did and the game has changed significantly since then. Plus as you said he is not what we need another player with questionable kicking skills (hence the Dunstan comparison), plus he would want 750k. We need to spend our cap wisely...B.M wrote: ↑Sat 21 Aug 2021 9:32pm Matt Crouch won a B&F in a team that finished top of the ladder
