MRO 2022
Did I hear Gary Lyon correctly that Nick Riewoldt will be the MRO next year?

Re: MRO 2022
How else can anyone refer to the MRO and by extension Tribunal System.
It is a protection racket for certain clubs and players. Fines are a sop to AFLPA.
Idea of three ex-players on tribunal to give balance and gravity is outmoded. Have an independent judge. Three to share responsibility is silly, its not like we are publishing individual reasons for judgements and building up case law precedent. Its an arbitrary raffle.
The proposition, accepted by the AFL, that a player can cause severe injury to another and be held blameless eg MacKay and Hawkins numerous times is fanciful and not reflected in any other sphere. Either there is a duty of care or there isn't, you can't trot it out selectively and be credible.
The AFL has a lot of well discussed flaws e.g. even draw, draft/ FA arrangements, home ground advantages, mediocre umpires, and the penalty system is right up there. Comp needs a big tidy up - money hides a lot of sins and the Covid era may expose the AFL for its lack of attention to important facets of the game.
Current MRO does not have the intellectual capacity or independence to be effective - doesn't even pretend to strive for consistency. Another ex player and media performer. No baggage? No free lunches? Sure.
