Re: Jack Steele
It could be argued that Steele was developed beautifully
A year developing
Two years tagging and learning from the best whilst developing his defensive side
Two years as the midfield leader
Do you honestly reckon Steele was as good a player at 20yo or could’ve been without development
Get a fkn clue

Re: Jack Steele
Jesus FC!! We didn’t develop the kid. GWS did.
Next you’ll be telling us it could be argued that Cho knew how to get the best out of his young players and his playing list
Don’t know htf he got that shitthouse win loss ratio. It could be argued that Cho was just unlucky
Get a fuckn clue

Re: Jack Steele
Did he have a good list??
Should we have won more games
I would say the 2013/2014 drafts and Pelchens theory sealed his fate!
2014 took over a team near the bottom, expected to finish low especially considering Pelchen thought it was a good idea to offload champions
2016 & 2017
After a couple of years developing a list (but still it was average) won 23 games out of 44 and got near the 8
Montagna, Riewoldt and Dempster retired and it was left to Ross (who everyone on here thinks is hopeless) and Jack Steven to carry a very poor list.
Since Ratten has come
The list has had a complete overhaul, with no fewer than ten player coming in
Combined with King, an older Clark and Coffield.
Look he may not have been the best coach, but idiots carry on like he was the sole reason we were average!
A more balanced view looks at List, Injuries, Draft Selections, Leadership and Development.

Re: Jack Steele
GWS developed Steele?
He played 11 games in his first two years as a HF and pretty much did f*** all?!

Re: Jack Steele
Cool story bro. He was appointed in late 2013. After leading the Saints for 4 years as head coach we “got near the 8”
Yeah nah, he was a ripper was Cho

Re: Jack Steele
Yeah after six years you can’t really blame anyone else if the list is still poor.
All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others.

Re: Jack Steele
What the f*** are you talking about?
His first year as coach was 2014 then he coached 2015
That’s a COUPLE of years
Then won 12 games in 2016 and 11 in 2017
Ratten is 9-11 this season with a percentage of 87
Does that mean he cannot coach too??
Or are there other factors at play?
And you know my stance on coaches
The most overrated metric when measuring team performance
But they do make for great scapegoats

Re: Jack Steele
In Ratten’s first full year (2020) after securing a contract as head coach he got the Saints to their first finals series in 9 years
In Cho’s first year after being appointed we won the wooden spoon
A COUPLE usually means 2 in most peoples understanding of the word.
3 years after Cho was given the role he nearly made finals.
2 +1 does not = 2
After 4 years Cho had back to back years where he nearly made finals
2 + 2 does not = 2

Re: Jack Steele
How do you compare the StK 2020/2021 list with the 2014/15 list
We were in a full rebuild then
As opposed to bringing in
Ryder 32yo
Hill 26yo
Howard 24yo
Jones 25yo
Butler 24yo
Then
Crouch 26yo
Higgins 22yo
And a heap of back up players

Re: Jack Steele
BTW
After two years
Which means in his THIRD YEAR he got the side to 9th
From 18th in 2014 - which was predicted
And
His THIRD year is AFTER a couple of years
2016 was his third year AFTER 2014 and 2015 (a couple of years!)

Re: Jack Steele
As has been stated, you can't make excuses for Cho when he'd been head coach over 5 years.
Let's wait and see how Ratts does after a few years and then maybe compare lists.
What I'm really interested in will be the progression for our FRD picks like Max King, Clark, Coff, Gresham and how we develop guys like Bytel, Connelly, Sharman, and Byrnes
I think we had a lot of draftees (some early 2nd round) who just didn't develop as AFL grade under Richo's watch. At times he backed the wrong players and stunted some of the juniors
