Message to Coaches
Pull yer friggin fingers out!!!!!
This team needs to be energised - so earn your freakin money and sort it the fk out!!!
Instruct players to unconditionally run off half back and through the middle and play on at all costs
At least this will force players to play out of their comfort zones and feed off each other's energy
If we become a little more dangerous and risky with our play it might force the opposition out of their comfort zone as well and force mistakes
Our best footy last year was when we looked to move the ball on quickly ...... this year I ain't seeing jack

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Message to Coaches
Yeah perhaps the coaches could actually coach a forward structure that has the slightest chance of success.
This forward set is probably the worst I have seen in my fourty odd years following this rabble.
Congested, non leading forwards.
Bang it long onto their heads.
It is dumb, dumb, dumb.

Re: Message to Coaches
There was one play in the last quarter where Bergman came off their half back line after a centre bounce to impact the play ....... t ball came to him and he clearly fumbled the ball twice close the wing and I was waiting for his opponent (St Kilda forward) to come into the picture and claim him from behind ....but nothing ..... he eventually took possession and they went forward
To think they had players running from their back half into the centre square unattended is inexcusable

Re: Message to Coaches
The game plan was rooted by round 3. The unexplainable drop off the cliff is due to the coach thinking on the run and attempting to fix a rooted game plan in season. The players have got the s***s and have given up, the rot probably started when Paddy took off suddenly and then really set in when the Rock Star took off to Perth.
This is the most fragile bunch of players I have seen since 98.

Maybe the hierarchy should just tell them to lift in every aspect; get professional; play as a team OR...

When you fall off a cliff like we have then let's call this what it is...a full blown crisis. Something is rotten at the club. You can't be on the trajectory we were on only 6 weeks ago to then be staring at a wooden spoon

Re: Message to Coaches
What trajectory? We haven’t built the foundations for a successful squad or for sustained success. We have slapped together a few GOP’s and some senior recruits. The club took a short cut to climb the ladder and the gamble paid off, but....only in the short term
It was an illusion and it was all based on STOPPING the trajectory of losing the support of the fan base and turning around our falling membership numbers.
Just like any squad, whether young and organic or whether it’s a team like ours where you trade in ready made players, I believe you need time for players to gell and bond and to learn each others strengths and to trust in each other.
Last year was not normal. The hub was like a training camp and it was very beneficial for a makeshift slapped together team like ours. We had buy in from all players and we had most of our team playing to their potential. Some of them had best ever years in 2020 including Steele, Butler, Wilkie, Jones, Howard etc..
Obviously injuries haven’t helped, but I don’t have faith in Lethlean and in the football department or the overall recruiting strategy. Too many average and below average players on our list and too many of the same type have been recruited in recent years. It was an illusion that was designed to primarily make us competitive in the short term.

Re: Message to Coaches
So take your conclusion to its logical end, we had the quality and attitude to win games in 2020 but not in 2021. We know it is attitude that has evaporated and it was attitude that could be cultivated in a hub, why can't that attitude thrive outside the hub?Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 4:17pmWhat trajectory? 'You'll see a different type of St Kilda' - Ratten's initial plan going into 2021 : Post by evertonfc » Mon 26 Apr 2021 4:28pm
Well yes, but not what we thought you meant, Brett. Quote has not aged well.
As some have noted, including now absent posters, the playing group lacks cohesion, as if factions exist and don't particularly like each other. Ratts has not mentioned this but it seems plausible. Some performances defy other explanations (?).
We often focus on individuals but perhaps the core teamwork ingredient of mutual respect/commitment to the group is missing. (See reaction to Clark's injury in CNS). Is it generally accepted we should have won several more games if team had not regularly imploded under pressure rather than rallying as a group? (See Freo for contrast.)
How to fix without something like a revolution. Just can't see anyone at the club that has either the wherewithal or personal incentive to create a positive group attitude. Starting to worry for Ratts (and the next few seasons) with a nasty end to season looming, esp if Board notes memorable quotes.

Re: Message to Coaches
I like the way Harvs had Collingwood play vs Eagles.
No forward 50 entries that were just hail Mary kicks in hope....eyes were lowered, leads were staggered
If we could do that we'd be hard to stop

Re: Message to Coaches
Of course its the coach's fault, just as it was the players who were responsible for the turn around beating Richmond, Brisbane and pushing Port and WC on the road.
It's nothing to do with the fact we have not been fit enough from the start( yes coach must take some responsibility for this)
It's nothing to do with the fact that we had at a guess 5 players there friday night that wouldn't be in the starting 22 on at least 14 other teams
Nothing to do with our half forwards like the past few weeks have allow the ball to exit the forward 50 on a travellator
Nothing to do with an opposition which had been Lambasted from pillar to post after an insipid effort the week before
Nothing to do with having been quarantined in Perth for a week and coming back having played there on a shorter turnaround.
I could go on but my point is yes the coaches have to take SOME responsibility for the performance however the 22 who were collectively out worked, and out effort-ed are probably more responsible.

Re: Message to Coaches
Add to these assertions the fact pointed out by others on this forum that even a strong team like Richmond, coached by a triple premiership coach, is going through a similar lack of consistency right now, and I don't hear their supporters calling for Hardwick's head!older saint wrote: ↑Mon 02 Aug 2021 10:06am Of course its the coach's fault, just as it was the players who were responsible for the turn around beating Richmond, Brisbane and pushing Port and WC on the road.

Also note what happened to premiership contender Brisbane Lions getting done by 17th placed Hawthorn yesterday.
We all feel terribly disappointed and let down by the loss of games that St Kilda were expected to win, but the coaches and players bear equal responsibility.
