Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
Most pressing is get our quick mids fit so we can faster footy forward fifty. Gresh big out. Forwards we have are more than adequate. The quick movement against Cats, Lions, Pies (for 3Qers) showed what damage forwards can do when ball movement is rapid. Howard, Highmore, Clark and Wilkie are rock solid, Coff needs to get fitter and Frawley is a sound backup to play against the gorillas (probs first crack this week on Kennedy or Darling). Jake finished.
Game plan to move the footy quick and structured flood back is >> than getting more defenders. IMO. (emoji "Shoulder shrug and bewildered look")

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
I think we need a CHB, we looked alot better last year with Carlisle there even though he was on the decline,
Battle did do a good job filling in not perfect but not sure why he didn't get a go at it this year.

I think the last two games have highlighted the need for another tall back

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
Yes, absolutely. No more midgets please. In basketball there is an old saying…’tall players don’t get any shorter as the game goes on.” Same with AFL.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
Do we still think it’s not an important need?!
When Dougal wen down
It was Wilkie 6’3” against MacKay 6’8” and 10kg lighter

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
Let's hope the Saints "brains trust" know where the deficiencies are and recruit accordingly, providing the required players are there to recruit.
Other clubs have the same needs in some areas so they will be competing for players both at trade time and in the draft.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
But they haven’t
And did we expect either to play every game
Both on one year deals and were probably seen as back ups

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
Frawley was cooked when he finished at Hawthorn, dumb, lazy recruiting by the Saints, it saved them looking for a younger Key Defender to recruit.

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
Same argument can be used in the ruck and to a much lesser degree the forward line, we know what happens if either RoMa or Paddy or both go out of our side and we know what happens if the porcelain giraffe has had zero contribution.
The backline has been the best performed department of 2021 when all backmen are on the field, not so much up in the forward line.
We need another tall forward urgently because we can't get our game going specifically our mechanism into F50 due to a structural issue that gives the midfield seriously limited options and the coaches limited set plays. We are so predictable into F50.
At least we can hope we can squeeze another year out of Carlisle and target a tall forward this year and target a key tall back in 2022.
Letting Bruce go was a mistake in hindsight.

Should chase Clurey from Port Adelaide was a mad Saints supporter as a kid & could complement our backline!

No jokes I actually think being a mad Saints supporters is something our recruiters actively search for in a player, how many players on the list were mad Saints supporters, King and Higgins?PADDLEPOP1001 wrote: ↑Sun 01 Aug 2021 12:27pm Should chase Clurey from Port Adelaide was a mad Saints supporter as a kid & could complement our backline!

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
Key position players are really hard to find. We have Sharman and Allison at 193cm and 195cm and we have Joyce at 195 and Clavarino at 197. Only one has the physical strength to play key position and that's Joyce. Will Clavarino be strong enough in another years time?. Unlikely. Sharman and Allison both have slender bodies and need to put on some weight.

We need something left field I think - like Scache from WB - hopefully whoever has the job to find these type of guys and get them to the club is doing a good job - we need them to be

But if that theory was true
Dunstan Martin would be playing for us

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
It's going to be incredibly interesting watching how the Bulldogs perform without Josh.
The Lions system turned to crap after Hipwood went down in their game against us and was starting to get a hold on the game before that with the help of Daniher as a decoy.
Brisbane haven't look the same since losing Hipwood.
Obviously Naughton has also been finding his feet with Josh in the side as his decoy.
Just highlighting the importance of two key talls especially for a young and developing forward like King.
This could really hurt the Dogs chances of a flag.
We desperately need another key tall forward more than any other postional recruit IMO.

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
Agreed.
Pre Bruce injury… Bulldogs were pbly head shoulders above the rest and I’d have backed them in for the flag.
This opens up the race quite a bit

Re: CHB or 2nd tall defender
Bulldogs loses another one without Bruce, they have looked very beatable since Josh's injury.
Two key tall forwards is a must for flag success.
I know I have said it before but geez in hindsight we should have done more to.keep Bruce and has turned out to be a list management mistake.
We now have to replace him as our first and biggest priority.
