Ratts always says WHAT happened not WHY it happened.

Post: # 1917689Post thecrevis »

One thing I've noticed in the majority of press conferences, is that Ratts reels off stats and describes what happened in the game, but never really gives explanations for why things happened. This makes me pretty concerned that he doesn't really know the reason behind we're actually losing. Yes the coaching panel review the game and have better clarity after that, but surely he should be able to articulate the "why". When he does give reasons, it usually is explained simply as lacking pressure or get beaten in the contest. But why Ratts? Have people noticed this too? Watch back the press conference listen to him say something, and then ask "why?" and you'll notice most of the time he's just commentating or making observations.

Yep good observation
You’d hope he’s got an idea of why but can’t really say
“We have too many players in the list who can’t kick”
I imagine that’d get the membership up

Clarko to the Pies, bring Banger home. He knows how to feel for the Saints. Ratts might be a nice bloke but the players aren't listening to him. I just hope they are embarrassed by this performance but they probably aren't as they've put in too many similar shows. NOTHING has changed from their previous insipid performance and they seem to acknowledge that if Paddy and Roma aren't on the paddock together that is an acceptable excuse for losing. The low light for me was when a young first gamer went back from fifty metres on an angle to have a shot at goal not one member of the playing group or even the leadership group thought it might be a bad idea and offered him different options. Let him have a shot we can't do any worse, so what was a match for a place in the eight became a training session. Then you have to draw the conclusion that the playing group is getting away with this and have no respect for the fans.

Ratten has got to get rid of the players that continually butcher the ball and the ones that don't get it. We know who they are

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Not sensible to name individuals publicly in the negative, relationships need to be preserved. He leaves enough clues e.g. all the mids except Steele. I suspect he has been directed to base the game plan on giving the ball to Hill as often as possible, regardless of other options, regardless that often Hill is under pressure (because sides know that move is on) and regardless that he often butchers the ball and intuitively it seems to me gives up at least as many goals as he sets up and stifles the development of others. I hope Hill can now be taken down from his priviledged pedestal and we can develop a more flexible plan.

Can't kick reliably very often: Dunstan, Butler, Kent; Webster has awful moments, and others lack composure under pressure and kick badly. Ross is cold and hot.

It obviously takes a long time to recover from the latter Lyon, Richo and Watters periods recruitment mistakes and it looks like a few more drafts to go to wash all that out.

Next few games selections will be interesting, noting Collingwood today with youngsters and North's development. It's flogging a dead horse but while we have picked up good young talent in last couple of years putting so much salary cap into Hanneberry and Hill can now be called out unequivocally and means those plotting the course have to rethink their mistaken view that we were a good side and those two were the finishing touches.

Ratts is constrained in saying such stuff, but now there is no hiding from it and if he doesn't call it out and make the team and the style his own he knows there is only one outcome for him - the door.

very good call.

Goes to the fact that he has very little impact on games.
