A complete embarrassment

Post: # 1917486Post terry smith rules »

In 55 years of supporting this team, this year ranks as one of the hardest

So many appalling performances, with a new clubhouse leader tonight

Geelong could win by 150 next week

The results for the rest of the year don't matter. We have already put the cue in the rack.

I think it’s highlighted our lack of depth but also our lack of leadership on field.

Who stands up when we’re up against it... Steele always and Crouch + Jones try

That’s it.

We really missed Carlisle’s cool head down back and a few bulls in the middle to lead the charge

I imagine the Cats watching our game and every single player thinking of a % boost.
It will get ugly.
It will be very ugly indeed

What odds were Carlton before the game?

Anyone boost their Super Funds?

Hhhmmm - that's not what I was thinking - I said to Sainter_Boy before the game that the odds looked juicy - did not act on it though :o(

Even worse - a chance to catch the leader of the tipping comp - he forgot to tip - and we do this!!!! He gets the away team!

I don't think so. We play the Swans next week, don't we?

The last few seasons, including this one, we tend to play a shocker, followed by a win, followed by maybe another a win, then a narrow loss, then the cycle begins again. We are horribly inconsistent, probably because of our horrible run with injuries, this season at least.

How fanciful was it to even half think we might make the 8. We are not a good team. Only three basket cases with worse % than us.

Ratts has done well to win a few with this mob. Keep King, Howard, Wilkie, Paddy, Sharman, Marshall, Connolly, Byrnes, Sinclair, DMac, Gresh, Paton and Steele, possibly Highmore and Clav. Put for sale/clearance signs on rest and cut losses. Need 10 new quality players to become any sort of a threat to finals.

It has been a pretty anticlimactic year. Thank goodness we won’t have to stress over it anymore.

You are not going to win if you don’t have a CHB or CHF.

You are not going to win when you win hitouts 70-11 (Adv 16-2) and only win clearance by 3.
You are not going to win without clear team rules about F50 entries. Can't win when Connolly and Webster kick to the opposition in 50, Dunstan's over the head on the full and we return to the long bomb after qtime. Not blaming them but symptomatic of coaching. All about structures, space creation and running patterns.
We can't win when we kick backwards behind centre to a team mate who doesn't then play on.
I could go on and on and on and on.
So many disappointing efforts in 2021. So many reasons why the issue is the coach. What is he teaching this group? Why can't we play the run run run way we dismantled Lions every week? Why can't we always kick it 20m in front of our biggest weapon Max not on his head? Why does it take being 9 goals down before the manic ball movement starts?

We could quite plausibly lose all 3 remaining games and finish season 6-0.

We are not a good side, we have about half a good team and some weak senior players. Weak mentally and in the contest. Steele and Wilkie are the only ones that look like leaders to me.

Sooner Club accepts that and stops making decisions as if we are a top 4 side the better. That approach has brought in expensive duds. We need players that can do basics well not big names that need excellence around them to shine - or are broken down, no Lourdes water at Linton St.

Until we get a barrow load of talent by way of a CHB, CHF, another ruck and a class mid we will continue to be embarrassed.

I am concerned the long serving CEO doesn't really know a lot about footy itself more about the industry and social trends, not how to build on field success. But what to do.

While we obviously have major issues, I don't think we are as far away as that.

If we can get a better forward structure, and a fit CHB we will be in the frame.

We have lost 3 or 4 games that anything approaching decent kicking, we would have won.
Could be playing finals.

We need
A KPD
KPF to help provide Ming with some genuine support
2 x mids who can run/deliver the ball and ideally 1 or more becomes elite to support Steele
Outside that kids must continue to grow not go backwards
We need the kids like Connolly Byrne Bytel to effectively push out the Richo deadwood brigade to improve overall
If they fail we are in strife
