Paul Hunter
Fancy trying to play Hunter in Marshall’s role as a fwd/ruck
He is probably a nice fellow, and an honest state league crash and bash ruck battler
But to get drafted at 28 into an elite system is bizarre
To play as a tall forward even more bizarre
Why didn’t he just come off the bench and Steele rest forward?
Better off with a good footballer in front of the ball

Re: Paul Hunter
If we wanted a backup ruck, wasn’t Kruezer available? Wouldn’t have been any worse.

Re: Paul Hunter
I can’t believe the pro scout saw him play?
He looks unco when he’s running
Exactly what part of his game would allow him to play Senior AFL footy?!

He’s playing AFL because he’s 200cm
Not because he’s a good footballer
There’s better players at my local club

Re: Paul Hunter
Can't fault his effort but he's clearly not up to it.
He was only supposed to be a backup.
He was only supposed to be a backup.

Re: Paul Hunter
They might be better players at your local club but put them in the AFL and Hunter would probably be better.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Paul Hunter
We play a player short when we are forced to give him a game. If he is best ruckman playing in the state leagues there must be some shockers out there? He is the worst spud we have had at the club since the Tim Elliott days.
The recruitment team have had an absolute shocker when they chose him as a mature recruit.

Re: Paul Hunter
I take a different view.
Today was his just his 5th game and I thought he didn't play too bad, did a couple of nice palm-offs to advantage. Unless St Kilda can get hold of a more experienced ruckman (maybe Tom Campbell from the Dogs who's out of contract this year), I think it would be a waste of the work that has been put into Hunter by the club to not keep him on the list fro another year, he could well continue to improve.

Fourth choice ruck probably not even in the discussion when talking forwards.

Re: Paul Hunter
Please Nooooo. The guy cant jump and got beaten in rucking duels by Darling early on, he is a complete spud. If the club cant find a better alternative than him at seasons end they arent trying.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Sat 24 Jul 2021 9:06pm I take a different view.

Re: Paul Hunter
I thought it was bizarre that he was playing as a key forward at times today
I mean seriously
He’s not good enough as a ruckman
HTF is he going to cut it up forward?!

Re: Paul Hunter
It's funny how people pick on the player who is probably on the lowest contract and has to play on one of the top Ruckmen or in a position that he is unfamiliar with.
I thought he tried hard, contested well and dobbed a goal.
Now try and defend:
Hill
Long
Billings
Crouch
Dunstan

Re: Paul Hunter
I thought he was alright today. Was competitive in the Ruck, didn’t do much up forward but could have had two goals if they hadn’t missed an obvious free in the last.

Billing’s playing injured
Dunstan was down but wasn’t horrendous

Re: Paul Hunter
Get Sinclair from Sydney as the back up ruck/forward. UFA, a goal a game forward and a solid 20 tap second ruck. You might get 2 more years out of Paddy with some quality back up.

Re: Paul Hunter
No issue with him competing as a back up ruckman
Even though he was flogged
That’s fine - Natinui has done that to better ruckmen than Hunter will ever be
It’s him parked inside 50 as a marking target which I find ridiculous
And why they actually recruited him
It’s ok to have back ups on low contracts, but if needed they’ve gotta be able to be a GOP at the level or they are just a liability on the list

I guess if Marshall was playing Hunter just goes from ruck to bench. In saying that Hunters no good.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 24 Jul 2021 9:39pm No issue with him competing as a back up ruckman
