The F F's The Tackle..Dislikes
From the herald sun.com.au
5. Bad ol’ Saints
In the final quarter of a dreary game, the Saints had eight turnovers by foot and one by hand.
Port Adelaide was plucky in victory and the Saints sloppy in defeat and after recent wins against Brisbane, Collingwood and Richmond, it was desperately disappointing from the Saints.
In a tight game, Port kicked 2.3 in the final quarter from St Kida’s turnovers.
It’s not a big score, but the Saints robbed themselves of scoring opportunities.
Brad Hill turned the ball over twice and Port scored from both of them – a Dan Butler turnover was a goal and a Jack Sinclair turnover was a goal.
Inaccuracy also haunted them.
The main culprits being Rowan Marshall with 2.2, Luke Dunstan 0.1 from three shots and Dean Kent 0.1 from two shots.
It was a bad game from the finals aspirants.

Hard to disagree
I give Sinclair a pass on this though, he has been nailing 90% of those difficult kicks this year.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Hill’s turnovers both led to behinds?

Yea both behinds
He was lucky but that’s the facts
Sinclair was a goal though
Poor forward entries and turnovers at half forward don’t look as bad but they are… never scrutinised as much

Feels to me like there’s a bit of scapegoating going on. A lot of ppl fixating on Hill and then you have stuff like this that’s implying that it was worse then it was.
Really sucks that there was another racial controversy involving our club and this time it was directed at Hill

Port are a well drilled side, top 4 easily. They cause even the best to turnover. Pressure the ball carrier, defend the outlets as a team and have good marking players/spoilers throughout. Jonas leads an excellent defence.
Perhaps equally the emphasis from a not so lazy journo could highlight when we got through, but then negatives make news, play to the self serving stereo type.
Shows we need more contested marking players and should not get tired in the final quarter after a hard game and travel. Bad ol Saints indeed, soft target for a dribbling fool.

But those costly 3 or 4 turnovers (out of the 8 in the last quarter, in which Hill had 2 very poor kicks under little or no pressure) happened when it looked like we were about to stream towards goal each time.
The momentum swing at this critical stage of the game, when it felt like we were winning the last quarter and in control, is what lead to our loss. It wasn't so much Port's great play.
In contrast:
Connolly in only his 4th game displayed the poise and skill that many of his experienced team mates lacked in the last quarter, with that brilliant pass of his (to Marshall, I think).
The kid knew exactly what to do.

I’d say some of the poor set shots and absolutely fluffed forward entries and the Butler screw up were a lot more damagingsamoht wrote: ↑Mon 19 Jul 2021 3:39pm
