Matt Crouch
Will be gone as a Free Agent next season from Adelaide
If Luke D and Billings walk via free agency, would we consider ball magnet Matt Crouch
Crouch averages 28.5 disposals over his career and had a staggering 825 disposals in 2017when he and broth Brad led the Crows to a GF
He is a massive accumulator, not particularly damaging but can make those around him even better.
Personally I would only consider this if Dunstan decided to leave as a FA

Re: Matt Crouch
To be honest… I’d be tempted to get him anyway
Players like Matt have such a knack for getting the ball that it gets harder for opposition to get a run on
Would be an upgrade on a few on the list

Re: Matt Crouch
Getting 28.5 possies is good, but in context, if they aren't valuable i.e. they don't go to our advantage, I reckon we target a guy with accuracy.

Re: Matt Crouch
Bugger all if we weren't paying Sydney's superannuation scheme.
I like the thought process but if he's not extracting to Billings or similar or better then we become Adelaide, just with different named chess pieces. We need more.
Preferably Josh Kelly or similar styled player.

Re: Matt Crouch
If we get Matt Crouch and Ben King would the club change it's theme song to Brothers in Arms.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Matt Crouch
Who would be more expensive in 2021
L.Dunstan
M.Crouch
S.Ross
J.Billings
Because I’ve got a a feeling we will probably lose one of them(possibly 2) to Free Agency.
Therefore we might have the space in the cap and positional requirement to bring in a M.Crouch
If Dunstan was to sign, don’t see a spot for him.
Other interesting players to me are
Battle
Coffield

Re: Matt Crouch
I'm still not convinced about Luke. What's it been a month? Big deal.
I might start bumping my Ben Long posts. Same principle with him. They need to do it over a sustained period which is about 50 games.
I'll be very pleased if they sustain this form.

Re: Matt Crouch
I agree with you that with a full, fit list there's not a spot for Dunstan, maybe not even for Seb. If clubs want them, let them deal but let's stand firm in regards to worth, whatever that is by season's end???B.M wrote: ↑Fri 16 Jul 2021 8:52pm Who would be more expensive in 2021

Why should Coffield be interesting to you B.M.? You've never been his greatest fan yet you must somehow believe others see value. Is this value we cannot extract or simply selling off a good looking lemon?
Personally we sold Acres for nothing so why repeat that mistake?
I understand Battle being interesting because he's played every position on the ground, failing to nail one. So far his greatest claim to the AFL is having dated Fev's daughter. She seems to be the AFL equivalent of a Kardashian curse.

Re: Matt Crouch
This is going to sound controversial (for a change)
I’ll premise it’s by saying I think Coffield can play and proved it last season.
However… here we go… I don’t think courage sits naturally with him.
I’ve seen him do courageous things (as I did with Fiora who took one of the most courageous marks I have ever seen at Casey fields one day)
I tend to think he has to will himself and make a conscious effort to put himself in a position where he might wear some contact.
Other times I’ve seen him hesitate and not go, when he should have.
Not sure if you’ve seen Coffield up close, but he’s a big boy!
6’3” in the old and 90kgs but doesn’t play physically.
He definitely has good attributes, good acceleration, good hands, good kick, reads it ok.
Maybe he’s a confidence player, who lacks belief - I don’t know?
On the other hand
Webster, Wilkie, Highmore, Paton, Clark
- they are unconditional
Highmore is ridiculously brave, almost foolish!
Speaking of Highmore
Who would you select at HB out of Highmore and Coffield if both were fit?

Re: Matt Crouch
Appreciate the response B.M.. Not controversial at all, in fact I expected as much because you've been trying to justify the courage thing for a few years now. Making a veiled comparison to "Fiora like courage" is pretty insipid to be honest.B.M wrote: ↑Fri 16 Jul 2021 10:36pm This is going to sound controversial (for a change)

I take your point though as you've taken the time to write it, it's your belief, it's just not mine.
I know the size of Nick, I also know his mindset. Do not be fooled by his movements or expression, he's as driven and as hard as they come. You were correct in that you don't know but belief is not something he lacks, he's introverted and needs to learn from Captain Jack how to focus and become single minded.
I don't want to see him go the way of Acres, a talented player let go for nothing because our coaches failed to extract his potential.

I did not realise Coffield was that big. It does not come across that way on the Telly.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Just saying it as I see it
Don’t care if you agree
Interesting you think he is hard
Do you mean hard at the footy?

Re: Matt Crouch
My point about Fiora was not a comparison of players and their hardness
It was that players who are not instinctively courageous can do courageous things. They just have to make a decision to do it, rather than just putting themselves in harms way without question.
My opinion is that Coffield lacks self belief
Probably stems back to a game he played at Sandy a couple of years back.

Re: Matt Crouch
When someone says, "Just saying it as I see it" then follows with "Don't care if you agree", then asks a question. What incentive is there to answer?
But I'll play, my answer is Yes. Like pace, some are faster than others. Some are harder at the football than others. Nick is hard at the football.
Both you & CQ are close with lacking self belief, somewhat conservative. The kid eats and sleeps football, if anything he thinks too much about it. He needs confidence, he needs to get fitter and play without the fear of letting himself and his team mates down.

Re: Matt Crouch
How did the conversation switch to Coff? .. don't answer it's ok, I read the thread
back to the op...I'd rather we didn't try and get another Crouch. I wouldn't mind a Shai Bolton or a Dawson type from the Swans or one of Ports young brigade please

Re: Matt Crouch
Definitely worth considering.
Creativity and risk taking is what might be needed over the next 3 to 5 years as the AFL navigate COVID and the financial pressures it is placing on clubs.
One of the big issues exposed this year has been our depth and so a player like Crouch might be a great player to have on the list for a few years, especially if we don't get too much more from Hanners and/or if Gresh takes a while to get back to full fitness

Re: Matt Crouch
Crouch will be getting to the wrong side of the age brackett. He is 26 now and after another year will be 28 by the time we got him onto the paddock. We dont need another slow banged up inside mid on the wrong side of their best years. He will just end up taking Hannbrey position on the team (Centre Med Room).
Coffield needs some time at Sandy to find his rhythm. He is good and can play. Just lost confidence, game style doesnt suit him, or match ups off. Not sure exactly what it is, but I dont believe he is far off coming back in form (he is dreadfully out of form now). Similar to Dunstan. Dunstan has been given a role that he is really suited. Given time to grow into it and make it his. Now he is excelling. I believe Coffield could be similar if given time and space to develop his attributes.

Re: Matt Crouch
How does a player age two years in one year?
He is only recently turned 26 (3 months ago)
If we recruited him he’d still be 26 when he debuted.
And why is he banged up?
He’s only played 125 games and has been very durable over the journey
He’s not a smash and grab footballer like his brother, he’s very much in the mould of Seb Ross
