Aaron Hamill
Maligned assistant coach
When we were looking for scapegoats, and we couldn’t bag Ratts
It was the assistants fault
And Hamill was no good and needed to go!!!
Backline coach
The backline (in many was no-name) has been the best in the league over the last 6 weeks

Re: Aaron Hamill
But your theory is that coaches should coach the positions they played? Are you now suggesting that Hammill, a forward, is a good backline coach? Good to see you are starting to open up and learn a few things BM!

Re: Aaron Hamill
After a night like tonight we need to give B.M some love. Despite our battles there will always be a beer for him in my fridge. fQFThe Barometer wrote: ↑Sat 10 Jul 2021 11:51pmBut your theory is that coaches should coach the positions they played? Re: Aaron Hamill
Great post BM, it was great to see his excitement after the game. I still believe it doesnt hurt to rotate the assistants over time, to bring in a fresh voice and new IP.

Re: Aaron Hamill
I do actually believe assistant coaches are better served in their area of expertise.
Just pointing out
When the going is tough, we tend to look for scapegoats
When things turn around, those scapegoats become heroes
Memories are short
Personally, I am not sold on the coaching group. But at the same time I have not written them off
Very hard to judge when a third of the best team is missing
Now we are getting a few soldiers back

Re: Aaron Hamill
Aren’t coaches overrated?
Anyway Hamil goes end year for mine
Let’s get serious we’ve probably played our first 4 qtr game for the year .....
plenty went wrong this year and change is needed

Re: Aaron Hamill
Definitely overrated
Players make coaches either look great or not…
How’s the development of Sinclair been under Hamill?
How’s the continued performance of Wilkie been?
Highmore?
Webster 2 years out of the game IMO is one of best defenders in the game atm
Hill’s move to HB has transformed him
Howard is pretty reliable
The back six has largely been outstanding
Mids - since Dunstan and Rowan came back in - good
Forward line - inconsistent
Long has really helped down there

Re: Aaron Hamill
I say this with tongue in cheek, would Robert Harvey make a good assistant coach under Ratts?
More seriously though I think it's no surprise the results are coming because we are getting players back, as well as some young guys are starting to deliver and the best 22 is getting some continuity.
Coaching is a little overrated, it's important but it doesn't make or break a club that has a decent list.
On the list we are still very vulnerable, that's the biggest takeaway from 2021 for mine, we desperately need another ruckman, tall forward, or a ruck/forward.
And we are still one A grade midfielder short.
Should be easy to recruit those type yeah?

Re: Aaron Hamill
Yeah I think like most supporters, I now see him as a depth player that IF he plays may be a bonus but even bonus games could be a liability. Time will tell if he can finish his career but it's delicately balanced.
We are still one short

Re: Aaron Hamill
Pretty simple
I was just pointing out a few things about our backline performance under Hamill
Even though it has been suggested on here we have rubbish assistants and they need to go - including Hamill
Me personally,
I don’t believe it makes that much difference.
2 years ago Adam Kingsley needed to be gotten rid of
Had done nothing in his time as a long time assistant
Goes to Richmond - they win another flag
Lauded in his role at Richmond - recommended by Hardwick as a senior coach
Helps when you have Dusty Martin running around!

Re: Aaron Hamill
Sporting teams around the globe pay millions upon millions for coaches and assistants but you don’t think it makes a much of a difference. Who is right BM or the professional teams in multimillion dollar sports who win titles?B.M wrote: ↑Sun 11 Jul 2021 9:17pm Pretty simple

Re: Aaron Hamill
Phil Jackson won 11 NBA titles
Helps he had
Jordan, Pippen and Rodman
And
Shaq and Kobe
Without them he would have won nothing. Those players, without Phil Jackson would still be successful.
Good coaches are important
Good players are essential
Can you name an average team to have ever won anything?
If being a great coach was the single most important factor
Explain why the ‘best’ coach of the modern era has a team which currently sits 16th and hasn’t been a factor really for 6 years!
Or why Hardwick’s Tigers are currently sitting outside the 8
List Talent
Injuries to the talent
Both more important than the coach IMO
The coach I rate the most
Never won anything!!!

Re: Aaron Hamill
Coaching is also about leadership. I think there was a quote about leadership being the art of exceeding what management says is possible.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.
