I'm following this podcast and this week Grant Thomas is on (I hope it's okay to post this on here).
Here is the spiel and links:
NEW EPISODE - GRANT THOMAS
A simply enormous episode this week. We have former St Kilda coach Grant Thomas on the podcast.
Grant Thomas coached the Saints from 2001 to 2006. He coached 123 games, the third most games in St Kilda history after Allan Jeans and Alan Richardson, and had a winning percentage of 51.2%
He is one of only three coaches to lead St Kilda to three straight final series, the others being Ross Lyon and Allan Jeans. Grant coached the Saints to prelims in 2004 and 2005, and an elimination final in 2006.
While he’s a no-nonsense operator who always cuts to the chase, Grant was ahead of his time when it came to transferring modern business and managerial techniques into coaching at the elite level.
He played a key role in laying the foundation for St Kilda champions like Nick Riewoldt, Brendan Goddard, Lenny Hayes, Nick Dal Santo and Leigh Montagna, and got the most out of the likes of Fraser Gehrig and Robert Harvey in the twilight of their careers.
His answer to my last question around the difference between being a good head coach versus assistant coach is at the very least, worth hanging on to the end of the episode for.
Since the time of the recording, the Saints have won the last couple of games, so perhaps they listened to the little clip that Grant gave them!

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!
