Re: Josh Battle dropped
As I said in another thread, Ratten has lost the plot.
In what universe would you drop Battle.
In a season where the coach and and co publicly declare a player like Hill won't get dropped under any circumstances thus subsequently infecting selection integrity with a debilitating disease, Battle gets dropped for what? I really want to understand this decision, surely it's for non football reasons.

Re: Josh Battle dropped
Holds his spot with two consecutive games of 1 kick, 5 handballs and then gets dropped after 21 disposals, 8 marks and 4 tackles...
I thought the Richmond game was the first time Battle has ever had an impact on the game from a wing

Not a big Battle fan
But a very strange call!
He’s played much worse and kept his spot.

Re: Josh Battle dropped
Maybe he just hasn't done what the coach wants and has run out of chances. He picked up more possessions last week, but he is not playing as well as can IMO.

Re: Josh Battle dropped
Apart from Steel and Sincs who has played well consistently.
King Hill and Buttler straight off the top of my head should have been dropped many times.
How hasn't Buttler been dropped as just one example of how it is a complete head scratching decision.
It has to be for non football reasons.
We now have a major weakness in our structure against the Pies.

Re: Josh Battle dropped
Possibly
But I think I it has got to do with Collingwoods defense. Tall defense.
Perhaps the strategy is use scrubbers and low level entries into the forward line and use Kent and Lonie and Butler and Higgins to scoop it off the ground?
I don’t think we have had too much success with that so far, but we know the long bomb approach won’t work.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Josh Battle dropped
Could be one of those team balance things. Collingwood don't have a lot of talls. Perhaps we're looking for more run. I expect him to be the injury sub, though.

Re: Josh Battle dropped
That's my take as well.
Apart from last week's game I feel Battle has been quite disappointing this year, as I have long believed that he has the ability to become that big bodied utility player that can play just about anywhere, even the odd stint in the midfield.
It won't hurt to be dropped, it often makes a player all that more determined to give his all for the team.

Re: Josh Battle dropped
The other aspect is that since Wood has come back into the team that he has been playing well and also importantly kicking goals.
Against the Tigers it was noticeable that Membrey was mainly playing up the ground. You can also look at his heat map that confirms that to be the case.
Down back Highmore was back again.
So they are all in that 190/3 cohort of players along with Battle, Wilkie and Coffield (inj).

Re: Josh Battle dropped
My guess is that they wanted to give Connelly a full game to see how he went, so someone had to come out. Battle was just the unfortunate one as no one deserved to get dropped after the toothless tigers win.
On that toothless point maybe our win wasn't that good because the tigers are just shithouse as one might suspect after the coasters flogged them.

Correct.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

He has been ordinary this year. That said, if I was Recruiting for another club I would be hunting him. He has not been developed properly like so many of our “coulda bin anythings”
