Re: Dougal Howard
Good game by Howard, very good game!
Who was his opponent??
Wilkie had Jack, and also played well.

Re: Dougal Howard
So we can bag the absolute cr@p out of them following a loss but cannot pump their tyres up after a win?WellardSaint wrote: ↑Sat 26 Jun 2021 11:06amGeez. It's only one game.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 26 Jun 2021 10:57amYep, he & Wilkie are a handy duo. Highmore also. Add a big key back & those three will have a lot of fun in the back half with Paton, Coffield & Sinclair.
Most of their attempts paid off, in a flukey performance.
The back 6 need to do it more consistently.
Don't forget our blowouts this yr.
You watch us take on the Cats soon, then we'll see how good they really are.
Remember this win was against a side that beat us by 84 points earlier this year.
That said, they had a ruckman then, we had ruckmen this time. A pretty fair example of the worth of a quality ruckman.
By all means Wellard, if you prefer to wallow in losses, knock yourself out.

Re: Dougal Howard
Who is Brisbane’s gun Ruckman
Who is Geelong’s
You just need gun players, if they are ruckmen - great, If they are Mids, defender or forwards great.
We have two of our best 6 players as Ruckman, so that is a strength.
We have a workman like midfield (missing Gresham and Jones) and an average forward line.

And yes
We can criticise them after a loss
What are we gonna do after a shocking performance, praise them??!!

Re: Dougal Howard
A lack of a quality ruckman has been Geelong's achilles heal. Brisbane look infinitely better with the big O in the centre.
A quality ruckman was what the Dogs lacked as they waited for English to develop, they smartly recruited Martin to give him a chop out.

Yep good mobile tall backs are bloody hard to find..,,he’s been super without a Carlisledesertsaint wrote: ↑Sat 26 Jun 2021 11:15am insaid it last year, and seen nothing to change my mind - howard the best of our recruits over the long term last year. probably the best over the short term as well, given the games paddy's missed. unsure how someone even decided to write a thread critiquing him. unless they've written ine on twenty others already?
IF we can get another tallish defender to help him I think we have the players around them to compliment those 2 pillars

Re: Dougal Howard
Never said Howard was a poor player, he is a very good player.
Did say, he was average against the crows and a couple of his contests where he was beaten (by a kid) were poor.
He sags off a lot, which maybe OK against Sampson Ryan and Callum Coleman Jones.
But against some of the power forwards of the comp, it’s a different story
Carlisle is not considered in our best 18, I believe the club is happy with Howard and Wilkie as KDs.

Re: Dougal Howard
Just imagine how good Howard would be with another tall stay at home defensive option so he could really sag off properly and give us that rebound drive he’s capable of?
Just essential in the side now no wonder Port fans were saying we’d done ok with that pick up.

Re: Dougal Howard
Are you saying he shouldn’t be our #1 key defender??
A good idea to sag off forwards???
What if the opposition kick it to the guy you’re ‘sagging off’

Hardly glowing praise B.M, but I guess we were all disgusted at the performance at the Adelaide game. Anyhow what a difference a week makes. We are all happy!B.M wrote: ↑Sat 12 Jun 2021 11:54pm Thinks he’s fkn David Dench!
Any danger of him ever being on his opponents shoulder, especially when he’s playing deep on the last line.
He seriously overrates himself, the fact he runs to take the kick ins when he’s a s*** kick!
Young Thilthorpe is a ripper, you see, young key forwards can be match winners
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Anyhoo Howard is an excellent key defender - he may not, hopefully, be our only one as in modern football the game can be played now with multiple key defenders that compliment each (amazing I know right??) who’d have thunk it!!

Once again B.M., your god like questions / quotes fail to acknowledge answers that are directed to those questions / statements. It's bloody rude to be honest.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 26 Jun 2021 12:46pm A lack of a quality ruckman has been Geelong's achilles heal. Brisbane look infinitely better with the big O in the centre.

Re: Dougal Howard
What do the following Ruckmen have in common?
Toby Nankervis
Scott Lycett
Jordan Roughead/Tom Boyd
Ben McEvoy
Max Bailey
BTW
Is that a ‘God like’ question?

Re: Dougal Howard
I have issues with him because he gives his direct opponent way too much room.desertsaint wrote: ↑Sat 26 Jun 2021 11:15am insaid it last year, and seen nothing to change my mind - howard the best of our recruits over the long term last year. probably the best over the short term as well, given the games paddy's missed. unsure how someone even decided to write a thread critiquing him. unless they've written ine on twenty others already?
Then he gets outmarked when his fwd leads to a great pass.
And he finger points at everyone.
He needs to play tighter.
He needs to look at his own deficiencies and work on improving them.
But, I accept that he is a walk-up start in probably any team. Has height, a bit of skill, and can read the play well sometimes. A big upgrade on Carlisle.
Just don't like it when folks heap praise on him when he's got room to improve.

Every year, a ruckman wins a premiership medal
It's an easy question with a simple response ( they've all been part of a flag) but what is the purpose of the question?
