Re: Narkle
We'd mortgage our future drafts, as per usual, and turn Narkle into a back flanker.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Narkle
Narkle should be on our radar 100%
Out of contract and said he isn’t signing. Perfect age profile
Quick and creative, wins own footy.
We should def be in his ear. Does anyone know if we r..?
Being a chance for bottom 5 we walk him through draft for sure.
Will only cost more senior football opportunity

Re: Narkle
We had the chance to draft him so the question should be asked as to why we didn’t recruit him in the first place.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_AFL_ ... onal_draft
So we pick Phillips ahead of him and I know it’s hindsight now, but if we were so keen on Phillips, why we didn’t we persist with the young fella?

Re: Narkle
Just another in the long line of strange St Kilda recruitment and list management decisions. Richo didn't really develop Phillips who had a lot more in the tank I thought.Scollop wrote: ↑Thu 10 Jun 2021 3:19am We had the chance to draft him so the question should be asked as to why we didn’t recruit him in the first place.

Re: Narkle
An embarrassment of riches.
How is it in this age of equalization, they can bring in Duncan and Dangerfield etc., and drop a star like Narkle..and we are tossing up whether McKernan or Hunter plays...
Is it Geelong admin..damn them.

Re: Narkle
Watched him a couple of times training at Swan Districts in 1982 and thought he'd be a perect fit for the Saints. He was. Very talented underachiever who didn't hang around long enough to be of any real value.
A true Saints star recruit of the 80's.

Apparently we paid a fortune for him (when we were broke) and he was hampered by injury.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Thu 10 Jun 2021 3:38pmWatched him a couple of times training at Swan Districts in 1982 and thought he'd be a perect fit for the Saints. That giant helmet was courtesy of five concussions he had in WA footy before he cam over!!
And yet he later became AA, a state player, won two WAFL Brownlows (Sandover or Sandwich) what ever it is called.
Gee...hate to say it..typical St Kilda story!

Re: Narkle
So regardless of who we took infront of him in his draft year and the 80s, (who gives a s***), we should be making a play for him now and look at getting him for nothing

Re: Narkle
If we can jettison Hanners we might have some coin (not quite nothing) to entice him. Sadly whilst he is still on our list our hands are tied. The Recruit wrote: ↑Thu 10 Jun 2021 6:47pm So regardless of who we took infront of him in his draft year and the 80s, (who gives a s***), we should be making a play for him now and look at getting him for nothing

Re: Narkle
To be fair, West Coast Eagles coming into the VFL was why he left us. Their bottomless pit of talent meant he only played 18 games for the Weagles. Probably now wishes he dtayed a Saint where he would have been selected every week.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Thu 10 Jun 2021 4:49pmApparently we paid a fortune for him (when we were broke) and he was hampered by injury.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Thu 10 Jun 2021 3:38pmWatched him a couple of times training at Swan Districts in 1982 and thought he'd be a perect fit for the Saints. Re: Narkle
Quinton Narkle was pick 60 in 2016 and has played just 23 games in 4.5 seasons, he certainly hasn't set the world on fire.
If St Kilda picked him up I'm not convinced that he will do more than be yet another mediocre player, and would simply add to the club's recent record of picking ordinary players!

Re: Narkle
It’s about improving your list
Narkle over Dunstan? Kent? Wood? Lonie?
I think so
But alas.......he’s no unknown, outsider athlete with 1 leg who club medics feel they can get right so will be overlooked....

Re: Narkle
Maybe he hasn’t got a game because of
Selwood, Dengerfield, Duncan then Parfitt, Menegola, Higgins
Reasonable reasons IMO

Re: Narkle
This is what we need to do
Pick good players off the fringe
It’s apparently why we are also keen on GWS and Suns fringes also
Gotta improve that bottom third of our list

Re: Narkle
There's a smorgasboard of good ordinary players in the AFL for our list manager and recruiters to salivate over at year's end.
I wonder how many we get.

Why single out the best player, proves my point.
