What a joke !
https://www.afl.com.au/news/625095/bloo ... ebuildWhat a joke
Up there with the worst trade of all time! We are poorly served ! My blood boils.
I concluded some time ago St Kilda FC club simply operates to fill out the bottom of the ladder and assist the premiership aspirations of those clubs identified by the AFL. Despite my best efforts to persuade them otherwise, my sons stopped watching AFL. You can't blame them. What a waste of time! !!!

Yep! No matter what angle you look at the trade from it was an absolute farce.

Re: What a joke !
Not saying it was a great trade but there is a lot more disastrous, more of a nothing trade.
The trade was Hannebery and pick 28 for pick 39 and future second.
Which after a few other trades ended up being Hannebery, Bytal, Parker for Elijah Kelly, contributing to academy points for Blakey
it was a nothing trade, the whole article just goes on to say it was at that time Sydney decided to start playing youngsters again and now there playing well.

Re: What a joke !
Right from the outset, the Trade was a very expensive "punt." With no other high profile takers, our floundering heavyweights felt compelled to make a statement - the wrong one !

Re: What a joke !
If it was a "nothing trade" hows about we pay him ( Hannerbery) nothing ??? Sorry ausfatcat not persuaded by that spin. Our prospects of a premiership have been set back years by this trade....and others.
The damage is broad and significant. Fans are walking away from the club and the game because of this sort of nonsense.

Re: What a joke !
Yep 800k a year that equates to 186k per game. That's pretty good money & makes the Saints look like the laughing stock of the competition. Well done Hannebrey you royally shafted a struggling club on that one. If he ever does get going again hopefully he does the decent thing and plays on a significantly reduced payment.

Re: What a joke !
Anyone can get injured after a trade and turn out a poor trade in hindsight
Fergus Watts - Broken Ankle
Barry Brooks - Knee
Jake Carlisle - Back
Injuries happen in footy - sometimes ruins careers
It’s whether these injuries could be foresight? Could we predict Hannebury was going to breakdown with such regularity. It would have been the medicos and fitness staff who would have ticked that off.
In terms of Draft Picks - he cost nothing and was a salary dump
In terms of wage - we had plenty of cap space and had to pay someone and could not lure anyone else
Was it a mistake
Probably

Re: What a joke !
It's not as bad as most of the trades Pelchen did. He set the club back at least six years with his mind blowing stupid decisions. He was the worst thing that happened to our club in the past 25 years

Re: What a joke !
DH's recruitment was poorly executed and managed. StK now pay the price ( and history keeps repeating itself )
Doubtless, DH will be cheering for his boys to roll us over today!
We are a laughing stock ....What a joke!

Re: What a joke !
I have always considered he Hill trade one of the worst. It cost up a lot more.
We gave up 2 early picks and a good player and put him on an expensive contract taking up salary cap room.
Paid way overs!

Was Lethlean sent to destroy Saints from the inside making relocation/extinction easier?

Kerry Packer once said, “you only get one Alan Bond in your lifetime” as he unloaded Channel 9 to him in a ridiculously over priced deal.
Seems the Swans found theirs.

Re: What a joke !
Lethlean (Zig) should be held accountable alongwith those responsible in our recruitment dept.for the Hannebery and Hill trades .
The Hannebery trade was not going to work from day 1 with his soft tissue history.
Just proves that some other clubs are more astute when recruiting unlike our football dept.
As a long time member just over the bulls*** we have been served up by the club hierarchy i can honestlly nothing but a good cleanout is needed at St.Kilda yet again.
Bring in people who have passion for our club and not those placed by the AFL and inner mates.
If it is relocation we need lets do it as i can see no real hope of success for our club.staying the way we are .
Please dont blame the coach as we have done that so many times previously and look where we are in 2021.
JUST OVER IT
BOOM BOOM

Re: What a joke !
Thank you for your comment banga. It is clear we are all on the same side. That article on the AFL site on the morning of the game against Sydney was like..." sorry to hear that car I sold you turn out to be a pile cr#p..but thats why I sold it. By the way I bought into BitC at 50c with the money I got for selling that pile of junk to you and went on to buy a fleet of Porsches. You must be really happy for me"

Re: What a joke !
At the time we had to spend the salary cap on someone and he was the only decent player willing to come to us.
In any event, we’ve got to retire him now and do a deal on the remaining year on his contract. It’s the only way to stop the bleeding.
