Re: Claverino to debut
Thought he might. Played well for Sandy last Saturday. Hope he is part of our future.
Been looking forward to the day he debuts.
Connolly wont be far off either.
If Oscar makes it, the 2017 national draft won't have been bad at all.

Re: Claverino to debut
Fingers crossed for him - I started a thread before the season touting him as a very important part of our continued development - if he can make it - I really hope he can but am not holding my breath
Good luck though !!!!
Interestingly according to his profile he's shrunk since being in the elite system - I wouldn't think that happens much - we listed him as 196cm when we drafted him now saying 195cm

Re: Claverino to debut
I’m excited for him but I’m nervous too.
It was hinted on this site that he was set to debut around the time we played the Cat’s last year when Carlisle was out for whatever.
Timing felt right then because we were playing play and had a settled, hardworking back 6.
For whatever reason he wasn’t selected then or at all in the weeks that followed.
Now fast forward 12 months and he’s set to debut while we’re playing badly, terribly out of form and confidence. It’s a big ask to debut at a time like this with the added pressure of playing for his career
It’s a very St.Kilda thing to do and usually ends poorly

Good luck to Oscar, hope he has a good game, hope he gives Larkey a bath.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Claverino to debut
I’ve asked about Clav several times on this forum and every-time the post comes back saying, ‘good hands, nice intercept mark, not much else and not strong enough, not big enough, not physical or something or a rather that amounts to something like he ain’t got what it takes.
Well, we all have to be wrong now. And Clav has to be the mountain man.
Can’t wait to see who else they put in.
Joyce too?

Excellent.
Oscar is the future. Frawley is a speed hump. Roughhead has not covered himself in glory this year: Paton and Frawley, his judgement is questionable.

He looked big enough to me. He's no shrinking violet.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Thu 27 May 2021 5:33pm I’ve asked about Clav several times on this forum and every-time the post comes back saying, ‘good hands, nice intercept mark, not much else and not strong enough, not big enough, not physical or something or a rather that amounts to something like he ain’t got what it takes.

Re: Claverino to debut
From saints.com.au
St Kilda has recruited Dandenong Stingrays rebounding defender Oscar Clavarino with pick No. 35 in the Friday night's NAB AFL Draft in Sydney.
After Richmond matched the Saints' bid for Victorian midfielder Patrick Naish - the son of former Tiger Chris - St Kilda chose Clavarino with their third pick, after earlier selecting Stingrays midfielder Hunter Clark at No. 7 and Northern Knights half-back Nick Coffield at No. 8.
Clavarino was rewarded for his dominant national carnival with selection at full back in the under-18 All-Australian team, with new teammate Coffield also named in the same back six at half-back.
Renowned for his ability to read the game quicker than others and for his clean skills by foot, Clavarino represented Vic Country in seven games across the last two seasons.
Standing at 196cm, Clavarino is built like a key position player but established himself as one of the most damaging rebounding defenders in the TAC Cup this season.
Snapshot:
Height: 196cm
Weight: 85kg
D.O.B: 23/10/1999
Club: Dandenong Stingrays/ Vic Country
Position: Defender
Might be awhile before get the spelling right.
After all Clark and Oscar were only drafted in 2017.

Re: Claverino to debut
Ill wait and see how he goes before celebrating his success? I do wish him all the best. Hopefully he is one of those players that looks better at the top level.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Thu 27 May 2021 5:33pm I’ve asked about Clav several times on this forum and every-time the post comes back saying, ‘good hands, nice intercept mark, not much else and not strong enough, not big enough, not physical or something or a rather that amounts to something like he ain’t got what it takes.

Re: Claverino to debut
They are starting to look at players they need to make a call on at the end of the year - and also young guys will get a few games to get a taste and see how they respond.
Barring injury. or an absolute howler, I reckon Clav gets another game next week . He is one they need to make a decision on because it determines how hard they chase an established key back to replace Carlisle and Frawley.
Leo gets a game in the next month as a taster of what’s required and see how he handles it.
Highmore gets a few more shots to see how adaptable he is and how he responds.
Dunstan is rewarded for effort, but his papers stamped at year end unless his disposal miraculously improves.
