Re: Changes for this week
Battle is barely in the team on his own merits I would guess. He is 'just going' and doesn't seem to star or have found a niche anywhere..terry smith rules wrote: ↑Tue 18 May 2021 2:53pm Out

I don't know McKernan except he is loathed among the posters here...
Dunstan and McKernan I take it, are not 'AFL standard' ..but I would consider them. Carlisle - i am flummoxed as everybody else, who knows the inner story? Obviously has the talent to play multiple roles.
Frawley is a question mark too..but was he 'that bad'?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Battle is improving. His first half last week wasn't too bad.

Re: Changes for this week
You can't put Coffield back in, after his dismal showing in the VFL. I love the kid, but after less than 10 possessions - seriously???
No Carlisle either. Too slow. Geary for Marshall - leave the rest as is. Give Highmore another go.

Agree Carlisle has the talent to - but when has he ever for us?shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Tue 18 May 2021 3:02pmBattle is barely in the team on his own merits I would guess. He is 'just going' and doesn't seem to star or have found a niche anywhere..terry smith rules wrote: ↑Tue 18 May 2021 2:53pm Out

Re: Changes for this week
Coff was on a great trajectory last year. Intercept marks, drive from D50, etc.
Now he's gone off the boil.
He hasn't been asked to play a different role, or has he?
With Paton missing, is he asked to do his own job+a bit of Paton's?
I thought JWeb n Coff can cover for Paton.
Is Coff's demise a sign that Ratts is turning into Richo 2.0?
Players go backwards under his tutelage?
What gives?
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Against GC he gave up the chase way too often and was not at all physical when he needed to be.
Looks a confidence thing as when he was up and firing such as the Final V Bulldogs with 4 or 5 intercept marks in the last quarter he was absolutely flying.
Hopefully he's back to his best soon.
Agree on giving Highmore another run, no good for confidence with one game in and out, needs a few on the trot as does Joyce IMO.

Re: Changes for this week
Not guaranteed: Butler, Lonie, Frawley
Definitely out: Marshall, Long, possibly Crouch.
Bullpen: Dunstan, Joyce, McKernan and with great hesitancy Hunter
best current guess: In Dunstan, Joyce, McKernan. Out: Lonie (general soreness eg like you get in car crash), Frawley (managed), Marshall injured again.

Re: Changes for this week
Looks like English will miss for them again. I think we really need to exploit their lack of ruck options with Martin out as well. So I'd be against Battle playing as a second ruckman. It pains me to say it but either McKernan or Hunter should come in for Row. Geary in for Lonie and get Gears to lockdown Caleb Daniel who's so important to their set-up.
Out: Marshall and Lonie
In: McKernan/Hunter and Geary.

Re: Changes for this week
From theage.com.au
"Meawhile, St Kilda coach Brett Ratten says co-captain Jarryn Geary will be “pretty close” to returning from injury against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night, having played in the VFL last weekend.
“He’s done everything right,” Ratten said at Moorabbin on Thursday.
With Rowan Marshall (foot) sidelined, Ratten said the Saints were weighing up which of Paul Hunter, Shaun McKernan or Josh Battle would complement Paddy Ryder in the ruck.
“Hunter trained really well and played really well last week, and McKernan kicked three and did a reasonable job as well. We had Battle in that secondary ruck spot as well, so that’s the conversation. We wanted them to train today.”
Brad Crouch (cheekbone) avoided contact drills at training on Thursday but is available to play."

Re: Changes for this week
They will be ready for Geary on Daniel, not sure lightning will strike twice.
If Geary tries to take Daniel deep this time, he will just play off him and another defender will roll onto Geary.
Daniel is a smart player, Beveridge is a smart coach
They won’t fall for that again
But none of that matter
It’ll all come down to the midfield
Sadly, with Marshall, Jones, Hannebery and Gresham we might get cut up in there!

Re: Changes for this week
I cant believe posters are asking for Coffield to return. He had 8 touches for Sandringham on the weekend, thats not a form turn around. IMO he needs to be put through a mini preseason, drop some weight and get some of his running capacities back. He is unfit and cant cope with the speed of the game ATM.
