Re: North into Billings
Can't believe there are St Kilda fans prepared to let Billings leave our club.
He's a quality player, very consistent, outstanding disposal, entering his peak age and probably in our best three players.
If our club were able to consistently draft players of this quality we'd be a serious contender.
We don't need less of the Billings type, we need more of them.
And as for the money relativity, Billings market value is greater than Hannebury & Hill and probably equal to Jack Steel & Rowan Marshall.

Re: North into Billings
I'd be a bit surprised if he went to North.
Essendon might be a chance but are they interested in him and is he the type of player they need?
He seems to be playing with a bit of passion and it doesn't look like he wants out but who knows for sure.

My best mate is a North supporter. And I won't be switching my allegiance to the Roos because of it.

Re: North into Billings
Why would a player choose to go from St Kilda to Norf, they must love losing.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

North will finish bottom IMO number 1 pick for JB ? I very much doubt they would even consider giving it up but if they are really into him hypothetically would we consider it ?

There is a chance North won’t win a game.

He doesn’t go for nothing he goes for top 10 pick I’d do it
He’s nowhere near Steele or Marshall’s value
He’s a nice small HFF/small forward who can’t play mid who can jag the odd goal and rack up possessions.
THIS is his peak
Sell when high but only for top 10 pick
My only reluctance is the idiots in recruiting would probably draft a 1 legged player suggested Saints medical think they can get him right with a good prosthetic, some Denco rub as long as he’s got good manners....

Re: North into Billings
No guarantee that we would pick up anyone better, then there’s the development time required.
On the other hand, we don’t have many low picks in the younger cohort. I’d still probably think he should stay.
Sounds simple doesn’t it.

Re: North into Billings
Depends if you think we are seriously challenging in next 3
I don’t
It’s true u got to pick we’ll but we’ve seen his best
I don’t think we have enough star quality mid talent to wrap around our true next flag core of Bytel King Byrnes Paton Clarke Coffield Gresham Howard Marshall ....we are super thin ...filling gaps with injury prone players like Jones Hannebery etc
“Yeah….nah””

When I first started dating my missus I found out she was a Collingwood supporter(still had all her teeth & everything) I told her this is not going to work I hate Collingwood so unless you become a Sainter its not happening almost 40 years later she is still a die hard Sainter (not as die hard as me )but still on the wagon & 2 sons both Sainters as wellPremium89 wrote: ↑Wed 12 May 2021 11:23pmSame! Re: North into Billings
People seem to be missing reality here.
This is Billings 8th season.
Billings is a restricted free agent when he comes out of contract at the end of the year.
If another club offers Billings big cash St Kilda has the choice to either match that or he can walk to that other club for free.
St Kilda gets an AFL compensation pick in return, not a pick from North.
If the AFL decides Billings is worth a first round draft pick St Kilda gets a free pick behind their first round draft pick.
For instance St Kilda finishes 9th
9 teams finish lower.
St Kilda's first round pick is initially No 10
St Kilda's gets a compensation pick initially pick no 11
But there will be other compensation picks and father-son picks and other assorted queue jumping on the night.
So St Kilda's first round draft pick could slip to maybe 13 and the compensation pick for Billings to 14.
So the choice is either match the dollars or get a dud compensation pick in return.
Of course if St Kilda finish close to the wooden spoon that compensation pick improves.

Re: North into Billings
And there you have it Teflon, our recruiters. Drafting kids has been more miss than hit for us. Billings has been a relative success story. He's a hold for me.Teflon wrote: ↑Wed 12 May 2021 10:21pmPerspectiveToy Saint wrote: ↑Tue 11 May 2021 9:34pm Can't believe there are St Kilda fans prepared to let Billings leave our club.

He's durable, plays with passion, showing leadership and has settled into a position that is working for the side.
At the end of the day it is up to him, not the club. I'd be surprised to see him go to a club in a worse position with a poorer outlook.

Re: North into Billings
North don't have to give up anything but $$$ BL. Refer the post from Ace. What we would ultimately receive as compensation would be no where near his value.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Wed 12 May 2021 8:55pm North will finish bottom IMO number 1 pick for JB ? Then we have to nail a mid range 1st round draft pick and invest 4 to 8 years of development. None of that being our strong suit.
