Re: Huge Game this week.
The interesting thing with AFL is how week to week it is these days. As in, the Cats are coming off a brilliant win against the Tigers, so they are obviously amazing now.
I had a look through their form and it's actually pretty patchy. This season they have lost to the Crows, were very lucky to beat Hawthorn, had a pretty scrappy win against North. Melbourne beat them easily.
Ignoring our own form for a second, this isn't some unbeatable team that we are coming up against. They have been beaten already this season by average sides.
Would like to think we have a plan to come in and attack them this week, and at least a plan to make a decent game of it, which is something we've struggled to do in a few games this year, especially against good sides.
The more I think about it, we really need to get up for this one, and can't afford another capitulation game.

Our Ace in the hole is our twin rucks. If only one of them plays our Ace becomes a Joker.

Re: Huge Game this week.
I think our headaches will be the Geelong’s triple barrelled shotgun forward set up of,
1) Gary Rohan
2) Jeremy Cameron
3) Hawkins
Could we play
Frawley
Carlisle
Say
Wilkie
Howard
Carlisle
Long
Geary
Frawley
Drop Coffield and Joyce
Long and Geary for small?

I would pick Bytel, Byrbes, Joyce and McKenzie ahead of Geary. Coff is ahead of all of them, and Geary by miles.lewdogs wrote: ↑Sun 09 May 2021 5:40pmVery tough question. The backline has really improved and settled over the past fortnight. I would keep Joyce in. Don't love the idea of dropping Coffield because his best is so good. It may be that Byrnes or Bytel come back out which I know would upset a few.The_Dud wrote: ↑Sun 09 May 2021 4:25pmWho would you drop for Geary?lewdogs wrote: ↑Sun 09 May 2021 3:41pm We are back where we were before the Tigers game. We need to find a way to win one of the next two. That starts with a competitive outing against the Cats. We don't have to win, but we can't get smashed again like the Tigers game.
A competitive game this week, with Geary coming back against the Dogs, we could win that game. But must be competitive against the Cats.
Of course even better would be just beating the Cats. They do have ruck issues so maybe we're a chance.

Re: Huge Game this week.
But how do we stop Rohan?
Hawkins has shockers and sometimes I don’t even mind if he is killing it because he misses so often, but the other two?
The GWS guy is a menace big time.
I suppose you are right, Gears will not be in...eh...top gear. Probably a spell at Sandy?
Long, could be the magic raffle card?
How have we matched up with them pre-Cameron?

Like it or not Gears is the captain and they will find a spot for him.The_Dud wrote: ↑Sun 09 May 2021 10:37pmI would pick Bytel, Byrbes, Joyce and McKenzie ahead of Geary. He has a few more runs on the board than the players you've mentioned.

Well I’m currently leading my working tipping comp and am 49th in the saints comp on footytips
I was tempted but could t quite bring myself to tipping the saints this Friday
If we win I won’t be caring too much about the missed tip anyways!!

Well I have crunched the numbers and calculated that this means we are going to lose by 149 points.darylcowie wrote: ↑Sun 09 May 2021 2:57pm We lost by 86 points at Docklands vs the Tigers and the Cats jist beat them by 63 points, so our chances are FA!

Re: Huge Game this week.
Well that plays right into our strength. We have looked VERY average for most of this season so far......

Re: Huge Game this week.
Look on the bright side.
It is Docklands.
Geelong have only played Docklands 37 times. St Kilda at least 70. (We won't mention that Geelong won 27 times - which makes them the best performing team in the league at Docklands period)

once again we were terrible in front of goal..heaps of inside 50s..we only have to convert and we are in the game bigtime.

Re: Huge Game this week.
It certainly can't be overstated how huge this game is, given the back end of our draw. Having got back to even, we now have the chance to go positive on the ledger. Big week. Need to use the ruck advantage and get back to better conversion of the opportunities......

Yep. But Doesn’t change the fact that we have squandered our chances in the forward line ..agreed?saynta wrote: ↑Mon 10 May 2021 4:44pmThe Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 10 May 2021 11:57am once again we were terrible in front of goal..heaps of inside 50s..we only have to convert and we are in the game bigtime.

I'm not saying it's going to happen this week, but you would think that we will play at least one game this year where we have a great start and everything just clicks.

Re: Huge Game this week.
In 1983, I remember watching Fitzroy smash Norf at the Junction by 150 points. It was considered the complete performance. North had smashed Carlton by over 100 points just a few weeks earlier.True Believer wrote: ↑Mon 10 May 2021 9:27amWell I have crunched the numbers and calculated that this means we are going to lose by 149 points.darylcowie wrote: ↑Sun 09 May 2021 2:57pm We lost by 86 points at Docklands vs the Tigers and the Cats jist beat them by 63 points, so our chances are FA!

A few weeks later after the Junction Oval result, Carlton went on to beat Fitzroy comfortably.
At the time it was considered a bizarre set of results.
