The press conference
What an insipid performance from Ratten, he wanted to blame the length of the games, the reduction in rotations and list sizes and the rule changes.
How come Richmond, Brisbane, Port Adelaide, Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs have been able to adapt to all these things and still be at the top of the table, if all these changes have made the game so f****** hard.
How about coming out and saying our game plan is f***ed, we overrated our playing list and we’ve butchered yet another trade period by bringing in blokes that have been delisted by clubs with supposedly worse lists than ours!!!

Re: The press conference
Any chance we can seduce Clarkson over?
It would be the ultimate challenge for him

Re: The press conference
Ratten lives in dreamworld, his press conferences are shite, he may even be starting to panic, has he lost the playing group ?saintbob wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 12:19am What an insipid performance from Ratten, he wanted to blame the length of the games, the reduction in rotations and list sizes and the rule changes.

Re: The press conference
Dont blame the coach as we always seem to do at St.Kilda lets face it we have a bunch of overated players with heads as big as bording house puddings.
Not to mention our woeful recruiting.
Absolute shambles of a club.

The coach could at least be realistic when he waffles to the press.

Re: The press conference
Clarkson is a bona fide great coach.
Will more likely end up at Collingwood or Carlton though and who can blame him?

Re: The press conference
When Ratten was asked about our comeback v Eagles and why we are having trouble replicating that effort ...... he paused and didn't answer immediately
I don't believe he knows why ...... eventually he replied about players needing to get a move on
But I don't believe he has any idea as to why the players are currently lacklustre.
He looks bereft of ideas and inspiration

Re: The press conference
Great teams make great coaches
Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, Franklin, Gibson, Roughead, Rioli
Will go down as greats of the game
Then he had Gunston, Sheil, Birchall, Lake, Frawley, McEvoy, Hill, Smith
Yes is is a good coach, no doubt
But take away his champions and his depth - he struggles like anyone would
He would do much better at StK than Ratten - We are not much

The game plan is shyte.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Re: The press conference
Is he another good assistant coach thrust into the main job, has the modern game exceeded his knowledge base, is he just unsure why his messages don't get through.Devilhead wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 12:53am When Ratten was asked about our comeback v Eagles and why we are having trouble replicating that effort ...... he paused and didn't answer immediately

Are the players annoyed with his selection policies. F*** knows.
Can someone at the club help him work it out, or can we employ a mentor.

Re: The press conference
I think the game plan worked last year until teams understood how to play against it.

Re: The press conference
Why can't the coaching staff adapt, surely we aren't the only team that gets worked out.
Too many excuses for incompetence.

Re: The press conference
Sounds like we are very one dimensional and we have not adapted at all. This was also a problem towards the end of last season so hard to believe they haven't worked it out.
Aren't we supposed to have a few tactical geniuses St the club?

Re: The press conference
The F50 setup is absolutely pathetic.
It is plain dumb.
FFS try something different.
They have to try something different.
This is just like Richo.

Re: The press conference
Cuddles and the other coaches have done 2 post-match reviews since the WCE game.Devilhead wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 12:53am When Ratten was asked about our comeback v Eagles and why we are having trouble replicating that effort ...... he paused and didn't answer immediately

I agree with you, I don't think he has a clue about how that happened and why we can't repeat it.
He, like all coaches, has 5-6 analysts on laptops collecting GPS data, pressure acts, one %, handball-to-kick ratio, how many minutes to fry a steak before turning it over, etc.
They get so consumed with numbers they forget what the bleeding game is all about.
One presser, he said 'our pressure was about 170' like WTF does that even mean?
Han Solo said his ship could do the Kessel run in 10 parsecs. Made about as much sense as that quote
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: The press conference
Cuddles has to look up the word "accountability" in the dictionary. You can't have responsibility without accountability. Ratten and the players are given the responsibility each week to go out and play for the club. At present they aren't taking that responsibility seriously enough.
Watch the replay, Karl Amon and Hill running for the ball on the wing, Amon wins the contest and waltzes into his F50. Hill doesn't give chase and/or help clog up Ports F50 and be available to help win the ball back and run it out of defence. Hill is lightly jogging towards HF while Amon is deep in his own F50. A sackable offence for a bloke's bread N butter on 900k.
If Hill gets a game this week then I'm done until Ratts gets the sack.

Re: The press conference
Maybe the players need a movie night.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!
