How do we keep falling from a cliff year after year
This club completely baffles me. Even when we were threatening for premierships - at some stage through any given year, we will play like we are not don’t even belong in the league it’s that bad and embarrassing.
I cannot understand why we can’t shake this brittle spine we seems to have had for 50 years.

Don't remind me of that failure.
Saints and Hawks both playing for their 2nd flag, look how that has panned out since.
This club is a joke, unfortunately.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

As someone else on the forum said, the place is run by gamblers.
At the moment, we care more about selling memberships just to get through one more year than we care about building sustained success.
We also drink our own bathwater way too much and lack the high standards required of an elite sporting club.
Look at the fitness department and the number of non-contact injuries we've been having. How you take one of your top 3 most valuable assets - Gresham - and rehab him from an injury whilst leaving him completely vulnerable to an even more serious injury is absolutely beyond me. Amateur hour. To say nothing of the general fitness level.
It's called being complacent and it happens when 1) people care about their own jobs/careers more than the organisation and/or 2) your people are more interested in slapping each other on the back than pushing each other to higher standards

Freak achilles injury is a freak achilles injury - any player is vulnerable to that

What does freak mean here? Freak injuries are contact injuries...those are unavoidable.
Non-contact injuries do not come from the heavens, they come from under-preparation.

So you are saying the one area he didn't prepare was his achilles?
Nearly all achilles injuries are non-contact realted ....... you do realise that?

Re: How do we keep falling from a cliff year after year
Yeah, more or less. Whoever was responsible for his rehab did not ensure his achilles was robust enough. Probably got too focused on the knee, he would have passed his range of motion and strength tests for the knee and just overlooked his achilles which had been de-loaded over the whole time he was rehabbing his knee.
I do realise they are non-contact, but the point is they only occur in people who are under-prepared. That's the definition of an achilles that ruptures...it wasn't strong enough. It's not as if he was bounding down stairs with a 20kg weight vest on...he was doing completely normal things that a footballer is expected to do but the achilles couldn't handle the eccentric load

Yet all our other players are not snapping their achilles
Assuming then Hugh Goddard was specifically under prepared as well when he did his?

Re: How do we keep falling from a cliff year after year
Gresham's entire lower extremity was vulnerable to re-injury after the PCL injury and months of deconditioning that lead to, rather closely related to the achilles considering the role gastrocs plays in stabilising the back of the knee, from which he was inadequately rehabbed, as evidenced by the fact that he ruptured his achilles in the normal course of normal football play.
That is the definition of under-prepared and poor rehab.
If you try to deadlift too much weight, you'll tear a hamstring. Your hamstring was not ready to deal with that weight...it's not that Zeus decided to thrown his lightning bolt at your hamstrings in that moment.
If you're playing football and your achilles ruptures, it wasn't strong enough.
You prepare tendon strength with things like eccentric loading and nutritional strategies that promote tendon strength. Most evidence suggests this wasn't done with Gresham, especially since he injured his achilles under eccentric load.

Long bow
It was just an injury occurrence that happens in footy
The fact that he is such a poor runner is more an issue

And there is no question this is about as big a cliff as the club has fallen from since 1998. There is something drastically wrong at the club. There is a fragility that exists and is evident when an opposition gives even the slightest of a push in an arm wrestle. In that moment when the slightest of force is exerted, we just fall limp and allow the back of our hand to slam hard on the deck. Whatever has happened at the club, it is rotten.

Under prepared in the forearm, shoulder and collarbone areas. Common injuries when arm wrestling.Vortex wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 8:10am And there is no question this is about as big a cliff as the club has fallen from since 1998. This where leadership comes in, and we have none at the momentVortex wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 8:10am And there is no question this is about as big a cliff as the club has fallen from since 1998. I'm watching the replay again and we are so VFL. Basic, basic skill errors compound by a complete lack of interest. That's another way of describing a large cliff .spert wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 8:27amThis where leadership comes in, and we have none at the momentVortex wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 8:10am And there is no question this is about as big a cliff as the club has fallen from since 1998. If this is true, it’s damning and shocking.carn_sainter wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 12:49am Gresham's entire lower extremity was vulnerable to re-injury after the PCL injury and months of deconditioning that lead to, rather closely related to the achilles considering the role gastrocs plays in stabilising the back of the knee, from which he was inadequately rehabbed, as evidenced by the fact that he ruptured his achilles in the normal course of normal football play.

And as we wait for our golden boy Hannebery to rehab, where do we look?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
