Who should we poach this year?
Eddie Betts: We always need another small forward.
Jack Gunston: Will hit 30 this year so good potential for a 5 year contract.
Michael Hurley: Has serious hip problems so we can take him on as a project player.
Jordan de Goey: Needs to pay off some fines so $900k a year should do the trick.

I hear Kane Simpson is looking to go around again...

Funny, true, but, the recruiters need to draft kids and then hope we can find someone who can develop their talent.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Sun 25 Apr 2021 10:38pm Eddie Betts: We always need another small forward.

Good luck Saints staff.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Who should we poach this year?
The crazy thing is, only 5 weeks ago us Saints people were all happy little campers and we were pretty happy with our list and how the recruitment department had performed.
How's that saying go, "it doesn't take long to go from rooster to feather duster".

Re: Who should we poach this year?
You mean happy with:
4 small forwards (when Gresham is also playing)?
4 or 5 inside midfielders ... Crouch, Steele, Bytel, Dunstan all inside midfielders (is there one other - Byrnes)?
Hunter and McKernan?
Hill?
Jones injury prone (we all knew that), hamstrung and not getting continuity?
Hannebery - a write off (we all expected that)?
First round draft picks Clark slow and playing hbf and Coffield with pace but also playing hbf (and not really midfield material) - when we need quality, young, running midfielders (like Bailey Smith)?
McCartin (vs Petracca - always the smart choice)?
King will be a player in 3 or 4 years time.... blah, blah, blah?
Alabakis?
What great recruiters we have!
We should be poaching the best recruiters, first and foremost!

Given the health of our list first priority should be Dr Rudy Wells.
Proudly assuming the title of forum Oracle and serving as the inaugural Saintsational ‘weak as piss brigade’ President.

Re: Who should we poach this year?
Get him, then Buddy could keep Hannebery company in the Grandstand most weeks.
Trouble is that would mean we have 2 superannuants rather than the 1 we have now.

Re: Who should we poach this year?
So I take it you were accurately predicting 5 weeks ago that we would be a basket case by round 6 and in need of a rebuild. Where did you think we would finish on the ladder this year?samoht wrote: ↑Tue 27 Apr 2021 2:29pmYou mean happy with:

Re: Who should we poach this year?
Vortex...
While I was happy with our win round 1, I saw problems with our recruiting ... and I have posted about this on many occasions.
So much so in fact, that I am probably sounding like an old record to many on here who have heard it all before from me over and over again.
From the number of sarcastic posts on this thread regarding our recruiting, clearly I am not on my own.
We havent really started any meaningful rebuild, have we?

All I remember is the excitement and expectation 5 weeks ago about us being on an upward trajectory.samoht wrote: ↑Tue 27 Apr 2021 8:10pm Vortex...

Re: Who should we poach this year?
Put it this way, Vortex.
There will be some teams that we will probably beat on the "inside" or get a mismatch against with our 3 or 4 small forward set up.
But we dont have the right balance to be a seriously good side ... and we can blame our recruiters for this.

Interesting times ahead. Bruise free players and a game plan that is under construction, recruitment can't help that right now.samoht wrote: ↑Tue 27 Apr 2021 8:36pm Put it this way, Vortex.
