Team v Port
St Kilda has made four changes ahead of Sunday’s Anzac Day fixture, with important pair Rowan Marshall and Zak Jones among the list of inclusions to take on Port Adelaide.
Fresh off an extended break, the duo – who were both late omissions from Round 5 – will be joined by Darragh Joyce and Ben Long, who has been listed on the field after spending the past fortnight as the medical sub.
TOGETHER WE RISE: BECOME A 2021 MEMBER TODAY!
It will be Joyce’s first senior game since Round 11 2019, also against the Power at Jiangwan Stadium in China.
Jimmy Webster (groin), Jack Bytel (omitted), Luke Dunstan (omitted) and Paul Hunter (omitted) come out of the line-up in place of the returning quartet.
Bytel, Tom Highmore, Mason Wood and Shaun McKernan have been listed as emergencies.

Love Joyce as an in, hate Bytel as an out.

Re: Team v Port
Whenever I saw Joyce play, he seemed to wear his man like a glove, and had this angry Irishman look about him like he wanted to fight.
Has big heart.
Keep him, he'll get better
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

No need to be so passively aggressively polite Saynta... I have no qualms in acknowledging that I am one of those ‘key board warriors’... though to me having an opinion thats not regurgitated by Sun isn’t being a key board warrior
Have to say that I am shocked at Joyce’s selection and given the Port forwards... it’s a big test for him. Hopefully it goes better than Dunstan’s big opportunity which IIRC you had also been calling for
Starting to feel to me as though we’ve already restored to testing those on the fringe in preparation for a big off-season

Re: Team v Port
Every time I have observed Joyce play he was brought in to a depleted St Kilda team and required to play on the opposition's number one key forward.
No matter how hard he tried he was killed by a superior opponent then got dropped the next week.
We all know who the big forward threat from Port is.
But hopefully Joyce won't have to play on Tex. make that Dixon
Tex Dixon gets his marks on a lead and kicks long goals.
Howard is not good at stopping opponents on a lead from marking.
So the saints will need a big guy between Tex and the ball.
Tex Dixon bowls little guys over to get to ball.
Don't fluff this chance Darragh, you won't get many more.

Re: Team v Port
I hope Bytel will be the injury sub.
With Webster injured it makes sense to bring Long back into the original team.
Highmore and Wood are the other 2 possible subs because McKernan has played on Saturday so won't travel to Adelaide.

With Joyce and Lonie on the bench... I reckon we’re light on for runners
Would prefer Bytel for one or the other though I guess Lonie makes the most sense

that 4th-last line
Howard is not good at stopping opponents on a lead from marking.
I have been quite vocal about this, but folks reckon Howard is the best big backman we have and refuse to concede.
Howard's man gets the ball 8-10m in front of Dougal, who yells and points and whines at his team-mates.
Geez. He's great at taking pack marks over the back, but only because Wilkie and Coff or Long, are in the pack putting BODY into the forwards, to interfere with the jump.
Without giving away frees.
Tactic that's practiced in training hundreds of times.
This is why folks fawn over Dougal 'oh, what a guy, taking another saving mark'

Not sure if you noticed Skeptic, we have no younger players to come in...been drafting rejects/older players giving us no chance to find a diamond in the rough with youth. With Joyce being included you would assume Battle will be moved forward again. The poor bloke was just starting to find form in the back line and gets thrown around again. Hopefully if he does play forward he can put some goals on, because we need some alternatives to goal.

Not a fan of Joyce's previous games at all but hopefully he's improved in the nearly two years since I last saw him play for Sandy.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

His AF points ranking was 6th last, 3 points above Wilkie.
Got 11 kicks+ 4 handballs
Dougal Howard got 2 goals, ranked 11th highest at Power, got 10 kicks+ 5 handballs
Ryder got 2 goals from 6 kicks, no HB, 20 hit outs (not that Joyce did any hit-outs)
And I can't be bothered checking for his next game so I have to take you on faith that it was his last game.
