King’s kicking
King needs to either ring Peter Hudson up for a chat or at least listen to an interview he did with the Coodabeen Champions recently, he explained he stuck to the same rules when shooting for goals his whole career and hates guy that twirl the ball

Re: King’s kicking
Cant believe no one has brought up with him
There is no deliberateness to his set shot - its like he is kicking for goal in a park kick around
Stop rolling the ball around and get your head over it - starting to irk me badly

Re: King’s kicking
IMO King is doing ok his kicking style is far from perfect but IMO is something we can at least look forward to in the future just need to get a team together that can bring out the best he has to offer.

It really hurt us tonight. Kick those easy goals in the second quarter and the rest of the game might have been different

Re: King’s kicking
It’s concerning
Doesn’t kick it hard enough, tries to guide it through.
Needs to try and kick every kick 55m regardless of distance out.
He also doesn’t look confident, thinks about it too much.
Sometimes it pays to be a bit dumb like Lloyd, Fevola, Milne and dare I say Snags. They don’t even consider missing - or anything for that matter!

How does intelligence come into it?B.M wrote: ↑Fri 16 Apr 2021 12:51am It’s concerning

I’d rather simple blokes who are footy smart rather than Rhodes Scholars who don’t stick to the basics
It’s more about discipline. We need a forwards coach that demands he creates a routine for set shots.

Re: King’s kicking
He have a footy manager who lacks skills in the most fundamental area of all - coaching and development. Same with some of our other administrators that have been introduced in recent years. Roughy is a novice so the jury is still out on him
You can’t fix 10-15 years of neglect in a few seasons with back office guys.
Richmond have had a focus in this area with seasoned development coaches and footy managers. E.g. Neil Balme, Mark Williams, Blake Caracella, and Justin Leppitch. We are behind because we also earn probably 25-30 million less per annum than they do ( or maybe the gap is even more)

Re: King’s kicking
King has a technical flaw in his kicking style. I'm wondering if it is to do with concentration.

Re: King’s kicking
Intelligence comes into it, because dumb f***S don’t overthink it!!
You can see when he’s going back, he doesn’t look confident. Thinking about missing!
Goal kicking is very mental, you only have to watch King warm up, hardly misses. Put pressure on him under match condition and he struggles. Why do you think he twirls the ball?? Nerves... does he do that when field kicking from a mark?!
Brendon Fevola said, when he went back to have a shot, if he missed he was genuinely surprised... he just expected to kick it.
King, like Riewoldt before him, hopes he doesn’t miss.

Re: King’s kicking
Fevola was always oozing confidence because that’s who HE is. At his peak as an athlete he’d compete with most people no matter what the sport was, let alone in aussie rulesB.M wrote: ↑Fri 16 Apr 2021 9:12am Intelligence comes into it, because dumb f***S don’t overthink it!!

Have you ever thought it might be Kings personality rather than his brains

Re: King’s kicking
Hudsons hunched-over style looked awkward.
He practically placed the ball on his foot.
This eliminated the "unreliability of ball drop" so the ball always hit the sweet spot on his foot.
The result was Hudson had just about the most efficient goal kicking record ever.
Would be very happy for King to follow Huddo's style.

Re: King’s kicking
Definitely technical flaws. Mark Williams would be all over it (apparently he runs a kicking school and has done so at each club he’s coached)
He needs a routine that he’s comfortable with and one that works 8 or 9 times out of ten. He’s got to simulate match day and kick over someone manning the mark. Also do it after training so you are slightly fatigued.
If he just follows a process he’ll be fine. And DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE RESULT. Just follow your routine

Re: King’s kicking
It's not like he's spraying them everywhere, and last week kicked 5.2
He'll get better with confidence. Jack kicked 5 last night but also missed 3 fairly easy shots.
And look at someone like Buddy, not a great set shot for goal but scored many through just a weight of shots.

Re: King’s kicking
31 goals & 27 behinds with quite a few out on the fulls too. We have a lot more bigger issues than King’s accuracy. What concerns me is his 2nd half fade outs. Last week, he kicked his first ever career 3rd quarter goal.
His football off short breaks falls away particularly after halftime. Is he getting to enough contests later in games, I’m not sure.

and that's the bottom line

There were little to no contests to get to.aaron82 wrote: ↑Fri 16 Apr 2021 12:01pm 31 goals & 27 behinds with quite a few out on the fulls too. We have a lot more bigger issues than King’s accuracy. Re: King’s kicking
He was up on the wing with Timmy Membrey for a lot of the third quarter last night as they pressed up. Every time we kicked it out in his direction he was outmanoeuvred or someone 5 metres in front would mark. This could be a set up thing as all our defenders could see when they kicked the ball forward was a swarm of yellow jumpers in amongst our forwards who pushed up.
and that's the bottom line
