Ceilings
I’m interested in people’s opinions on the potential “ ceilings” of some of our young “ stars” and players.
How high can they go?
Max King- 20 yo- 18 games
Hunter Clark- 22 yo - just under 50 games
Nick Coffield- 21 yo- 35 games
Jade Gresham- 23 yo- 90 odd games
Rowan Marshall-25- 52 games
Jack Bytel- 21- 3 games
I’m intrigued by Gresham and Bytel I have a fair idea how the rest will go although you are never fully in the know.
Gresham has huge talent just his decision making/ foot skills are not polished sometimes.
There is some big wraps on Bytel internally at the club.
What are people’s thoughts?

Re: Ceilings
King is playing at around 30% of his full potential at this stage of his career
Gresham about 90%
Clark around 75%
Coffield around 70%
Marshall about 85%
Bytel about 20%
.....and some others to consider
Higgins around 70%
Battle around 60%
Paton (prior to injury) around 75%
Long around 80%
So....still a lot of improvement to come from that group. There are some unknowns, too, like Highmore, Allison, and Byrnes.

Re: Ceilings
Huge up side on ten players which is half the team. Even Howard has some some upside and Wilkie whilst playing at his maximum can enjoy more experience having played less than 50 games.
A name to look out for is Leo Connolly I think he is the next one that could come out and be something. Very skilled and has some talent I am hearing.

Re: Ceilings
This team could be anything. The could part dependent on:
- injuries which, although an unavoidable cost of doing business, have been unkind so far and in recent times, even to the extent of Gresh coping a bad back at a particularly unfortunate time last year and Rowan's foot (that's not to underestimate the impact of Ben P's training accident on the team and the young man himself);
- Another top ruckman; goodness knows from where;
- Two more big boys to play CHF, CHB.
These are big asks, so I think our ceiling at the moment is top 5.

Re: Ceilings
Battle was settled and developing well at CHB - he was doing really well there for a while and tracking towards a breakout year.
He is still doing okay, mind you ... I rate him.

Re: Ceilings
Just on Gresh, I think it’s going to be harder to get him to change his habits rather than a guy like Longy who’s played under 50 games.
I think if Gresh’s previous coach gave him some tough love (like Longy’s received this week) maybe he’d be a better ball user.
If Gresh looks for a team mate with the first option from time to time he’ll improve his value to the team
If Longy can control his emotions and just keep attacking the footy and each contest with vigour he will continue to be a valuable member of the team. I think Long is usually a very good decision maker

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!
