Will our game go ahead
There must be some chance our game will be postponed.
The radar for today shows more rain. You would think it would not matter how well drained the ground is it will be questionable
They are asking Sydney people to stay home because of roads flooding etc
I think it will make those Cairns games look like a fast track
As someone else mentioned in another thread, for players to play a full game in this and then be right for next week... mmmm

Re: Will our game go ahead
I reckon there’s a real chance it may be postponed! The ground must be absolutely under water as you say.
Risk on player injuries but also just whether or not it’s playable
I hope it goes ahead as my Sunday arvo plans were based on watching the match but I reckon there’s a real chance it doesnt

I really hope it is re scheduled, no reason not too, surely the AFL are now elite managers of re scheduling games at short notice.
The risk to injury as well as the negative impact to players the following game is the worry for me.

Sorry to be dark, but the longer quarters and reduced interchanges will definitely help.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

But it's very early autum, arguably still summer by actual weather in a La Niña weather cycle and a game being played in a sub tropical climate.

114mm in the 24 hours to 9:00AM at Sydney Olympic Park and the radar shows no sign of the rain stopping. The risk of a player being knocked out and drowning must be a consideration!

Yes it is played during winter but it is not a winter sport anymore. At least 1/4 of the games are played under a roof.
Every ground now drains amazingly. When was the last time you saw mud in an AFL game?
I’m not saying the game should be postponed but I would understand if it was

Play on I say!
EDIT: Parramatta River has burst it's banks and Warragamba Dam has spilled. The news reports say the rains in Western Sydney will continue.

Another 12 mm in the 3 hours to midday. Screw in stops for the White Diamond boots boys!Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Sun 21 Mar 2021 10:02am 114mm in the 24 hours to 9:00AM at Sydney Olympic Park and the radar shows no sign of the rain stopping. If it does go ahead I hope Ratten runs a lap with his top off. I don’t want to see it personally though

Re: Will our game go ahead
I cant remember an AFL game ever being postponed because of rain. The concern of it being dangerous is a mysnoma. Players play in bog hole conditions during the winter months in southern Victoria and there are no more injuries than fair weather.
From my experience there are probably less injuries because the game is a slog and it takes the speed out of contests.

Re: Will our game go ahead
This is not winter, this is a once in a 50 year storm and flood!
And it’s building at Sydney’s west!
This game is going to be very interesting!

Game in Mackay was cancelled after 200mm of rain a couple of years ago, but it was a preseason.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sun 21 Mar 2021 1:57pm I cant remember an AFL game ever being postponed because of rain. Heath Shaw and Tim Watson heading the coverage. It’s going to be a long afternoon.
