Re: Team for Round 1
I suspect Lonie will play, maybe Kent too, but the former’s game in the last final won’t be forgotten. I wouldn’t write off Kent yet either, I think the longer quarters and lack of interchanges will help Kent and hurt Jones (if his hammies are not already hurting) Obviously I hope Jones goes in ahead of Kent, but Ratts has his ideas.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Team for Round 1
I don’t know what you mean?
On paper, 9 are always forwards, plus the bench.
I think (dread) they’ll pick Kent ahead of Lonie actually.
Last year, which teams showed terrible pre season form?
Geelong and Richmond! Grand finalists!

Re: Team for Round 1
I would just like to point out to the selectors that Jack Lonie nearly took a contested overhead mark, forward pocket, Lockett End vs Carlton in trial game last week (first quarter?). Symptomatic of how we have improved and the effort needs proper recognition; he will be in round 1 team unless injured - but we have a lot of that going around. He must love playing with that sequoia called MKing in the vicinity.

Re: Team for Round 1
Surprising odds considering St Kilda played in two finals last year and GWS missed the finals. We've improved our list and they've lost a few.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Mon 08 Mar 2021 4:47pmWell not that I gamble...shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Mon 08 Mar 2021 4:13pm What odds are they giving us?
v. GWS
(odds are blocked here in Japan)
GWS $1.65 STK $2.20 on sportsbet
Many are tipping Saints to play finals again this year and GWS are considered borderline.
Mind you, I've been thinking that GWS has been loaded with talent and should be a serious premership contender. On paper we should be favorites, but my gut tells me it's a 50/50 (8 point) match.

Re: Team for Round 1
Going to be a tough game for us to win but if we can't beat a team that is tipped to be bottom of the 8 or there about's then we won't make finals . All up to us to show where were at & I think we will win just have to play to our potential .

I will be surprised if Hannebrey gets up - but have selected Jones. If Hannebrey plays it would be at the expense of Lonie.
If Ratten doesnt have faith in Carlisle now that Frawley is out, I would like to see Battle be shifted back to defence where he excelled in 2019. I think Wood is ready to play the role the same role as Battle forward.

Re: Team for Round 1
Lonie so far has nailed his pre-season and his game also looks more rounded.
Having said that he was pretty reasonable in 2020.
I thought pre-season we would go with just the 3 small forwards, even though we at times had 4 last year.
Butler, Gresh and Higgins.
However Lonie has worked well with the above 3. The balance has been good.
Also helping Lonie and also making it more likely that we may start with the four is that Crouch and Hannas are not available for Round 1, and Jones may not be either. When, and if, all those 3 are available then we may revert to just three small forwards.
I am still hoping that Bytel gets to play Rounds 1 and 2 as he looks very promising.

Re: Team for Round 1
Now with Ryder stepping away our start to the season is going to be interesting. Hopefully we can win enough games in the interim, but our injury list is building.

The list wins a premiership: cliche #45 from Richmond President; but may actually be true, eh.

This is certainly not even close to our best team, and has started to make me concerned about our buliding unavailabilities for the season

It’s a worry. Who are the unavailables from our best 22?Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Wed 10 Mar 2021 3:16pm Now with Ryder stepping away our start to the season is going to be interesting. Hopefully we can win enough games in the interim, but our injury list is building.
Ryder, Marshall, Hannebery, Paton. Geary, Crouch. Jones? Carlisle? Who have I missed?

Re: Team for Round 1
Based on the latest updates on injuries and the unavailability of Paddy Ryder, I suggest the following:
FB: Webster - Howard - Wilkie
HB: Clark - Coffield - Sinclair
C: Hill - Ross - Billings
HF: Higgins - Membrey - Butler
FF: Lonie - King - Battle
Ruck: Hunter - Steele - Gresham
Int: Jones - McKernan - Bytel - Wood
Emergencies: Long, Carlisle, Highmore
If Jones is not match-fit replace him with Long
This is still a bloody strong line-up but it will be up to the midfield squad to lift their game in the absence of Ryder and Marshall at the bounce of the ball and win the clearances.

Re: Team for Round 1
Big job for debutant Hunter and McKernan. Maybe can ask Carlisle to give them a chop out. A bit of class never hurts
