He is one of St Kilda's greatest ever coaches, not sure how much that says tho.

Why do you ask, are there drumbeats out there?
Could be right because if Melbourne continue to tread water in 2021 Simon Goodwin may well find his card marked.

It would be a mistake IMO for Melbourne as he has passed his UBD in my opinion.
Ross was an innovator at the Saints and took a side that many thought was ready for a total rebuild in 2008 to two GFs.
But he was cooked when he left Freo and IMO and his message is now dated and he showed his taxing style has minimal longevity.
Perhaps Gary instead of Ross

Give the job to Richo. Doom Melbourne to another decade at the bottom. A Trojan Horse of epic proportions.

Like it. I’m saving that one for a Melbourne acquaintance when they lose a few in a row.

If Goodwin fails what does that say about super coach Roos who mentored him and then recommended him for the job.

Goodwin was Roos' 2nd choice, he really wanted to mentor Stuart Dew for the role but couldn't get him out of Sydney.66Iwasthere wrote: ↑Tue 02 Mar 2021 1:37pm If Goodwin fails what does that say about super coach Roos who mentored him and then recommended him for the job.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

RL has now taken two very good lists and run them into the ground
Our recovery took almost 10 years... no idea what Freo are looking like but most don’t have them in their top 8 as such
I wonder if a serial cellar dweller as of late like Melbourne, that have just started looking good and ready for a sustained run of finals football would want to risk it all for 1-2 good years and another 6-7 years rebuilding

How about Clarkson to Carlton for next year?
Good fit and Carlton has a better list than the Hawks.

I agree Ross was toast when he left Freo.
But are you taking the piss about St Kilda?
2007 we missed finals, had a good season, a few cruelling injuries and I felt Grant may have taken us further if given the chance.
Ross had a gift on a platter when he arrived.
Players including top 20 picks all in their prime....
That said Grant had a great team as well and failed to win the big one. But I do think he did a great job in development.
Ross was a tactical pro and turned our team into a defensive unit big on ball control.
At present, I confess I am addicted to using the phrase, "are you taking the piss?".
It may be a mental or idiot based issue occurring with my mind grapes.
I do wish right now there was another way to work the phrase into this comment

Re: Melbourne coach in 2022? Ross Lyon?
I'm led to believe by an itk at the skiers, that his card is already marked, pending a finals berth. Top 6 minimum requirement. Could be very tough to achieve, even for a good coach, let alone Goodwin. Then again, if they do scrape into the eight, it would be tough to sack him. Only the Saints do that !
