Sort of News
My mystical mate tells me that Ratts has openly discussed the movement of several players to new positions.
Im not sure this is news?
I guess several of us are wondering if or when:
Gresh gets a midfield run?
Clark gets a midfield run?
Ross becomes a permanent tagger?
Geary slips into a small forward role?
Will Higgins float between midfield & small forward or nail one down?
Will Kent, McKernan & Sinclair live in limbo as emergencies weekly?
Does Roberton actually get a spot in the backline & if so is it Geary's or Clark's spot if they move?
Will Battle, Long, Dunstan, Geary, Webster, Lonie, Roberton actually start on the interchange weekly or slip back into VFL land and potentially the abyss?
Bastard is stringing me along.
Says at least a few moves will surprise me. Hell, at my age, waking up surprises me somedays.

Re: Sort of News
Hi Saint Lee, I would absolutely love to see Geary moved to a defensive forward role, as he appeared to do really well there, when given a job in the forward line. Perhaps the most surprising thing was, just how accurate he was at kicking for goal - he seemed really good!SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jan 2021 10:14pm My mystical mate tells me that Ratts has openly discussed the movement of several players to new positions.

On another matter, I would love to see Roberton playing again - like some other posters on here, I see him as one of our top 22 players, whatever position he plays. Can't help but think the Club are a bit gun-shy of his heart situation and legalities.
Would love to see McKernan find a new lease of life at our mighty Saints and kick 50 goals from a surprising new forward role! Rock on!

Re: Sort of News
I cant find a spot in the team for Robbo, I'm thinking he is going to need a form or injury crisis to break into the side.

Re: Sort of News
Didn’t all those moves happen last year?
Hate defensive forwards
To me the best way to hurt an offensive HB is to be a dangerous forward opponent.

Guilty as charged, we won't see him play until round 3.

Re: Sort of News
Jake and Buttler will be one of the first picked you would think unless they have issues over the pr season, I think we have established if Jake plays we win.
Bytel is a chance for a game in Round 1 or 2 due to Crouch being in the stands but that will depend on how his and other fringe midfielders such as Dunny go in the pre season and how he might match up against very strong midfilder in R1.
Agree Syncs plays if he has a successful pre season.

Re: Sort of News
In the first 2 weeks of the new year there is rarely any authentic AFL news with players only just getting back on the training track.SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jan 2021 10:14pm My mystical mate tells me that Ratts has openly discussed the movement of several players to new positions.

The sort of rubbish that your mystical mate is sprouting SAINT-LEE is nothing more than idle speculation and not worthy of serious analysis.
All eyes in the next few weeks will be on how the players get themselves ready for the pre-season, so if there are any supporters living close proximity to RSEA Park it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide updates separate from what the club releases...

Re: Sort of News
Judging by training photos from last week, it looks like we're training in something resembling positional groups. Potential changes, based on what I can see in the photos:
Billings is training with the smaller defenders. Geary is also in that group. Clark isn't. Wilkie is also there, which might be an indication we're going to play two tall defenders in addition to Wilkie.
There appears to be a tall group which features our key forwards and defenders. It doesn't appear anybody particularly surprising is with that group. Allison and Highmore (I assume he's number 34) are there. Alabakis is there too.
There's a kind of miscellaneous group. Rowan Marshall is in it. Maybe he's a winger now. It looks like outside mids and small forwards are in this group. Battle is in this group, rather than with the talls. Dunstan, Jones and Sinclair are in this group, which may mean they're to spend less time in the centre. It could also be we have too many inside mids to fit in one group, however.
Last up, we've got what looks like the inside mid group. Clark is there. Higgins is there. There's one that's really going to get this place excited: Dean Kent is there. The rest is Byrnes, Bytel, Crouch, Ross, Steele.
Gresham and Membrey are in white training jumpers (everybody else is in the new yellow ones), which may be a rehab group. In addition, there's a few players not sighted at all (Clavarino, Paton, Ryder).
You'd be crazy to read too much into this, being January and all. So, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Clark moves into the middle, Jones moves to the wing, Billings moves to defence. Higgins rotates through the middle. Not sure which one of Crouch, Ross and Steele will lose their job to Dean Kent, but somebody has to.

100%
The success of the Lyon era introduced this notion that guarding space and chasing are enough... sure the effort and ability to follow instruction is important, but you need to bring something of your own to the table as well
