St Kilda explains awkward Nike intrusion after fans mock New Balance ad
St Kilda has responded after footy fans mocked their attempt to promote new apparel sponsor New Balance.
The Saints couldn’t wait to show off their New Balance training gear after joining forces with the sports apparel brand on a three-year sponsorship deal.
Unfortunately all anyone was talking about was Nike.
Footy fans couldn’t help but notice the footwear worn by players Max King and Hunter Clark in a pair of Instagram posts sent out by St Kilda on Friday.
While promoting the partnership with New Balance, both footballers had familiar ticks on the side of their sneakers in an awkward intrusion to the new venture.
But apparently there was no other option.
After a steady stream of comments questioning why the players were wearing Nikes in a New Balance promotion, the Saints responded: “Our players have shoe/boot partnerships independent of the club.”
That either shows the Saints were unable to find a single marketable player without a shoe sponsorship or the absolute power Nike has if it insisted King and Clark were in its sneakers.
Either way, it feels like a loss for New Balance."

Re: Oops.
No offence, but if you are going to post paywalled links I would suggest posting a paragraph or two which you are 100% allowed to do so we know what the gist of it is.
Otherwise it is a pretty pointless exercise.
You might as well just post random text. %$ftg#@(lkv234

It works now. But not when I first looked.
But again why just post ooops and a link?
If you cannot be bothered to at least write a brief summary or extract a couple of relevant sentences then why bother?

(everyone knows who NB are now)
maybe the plan was so cunning
they can now put a tail on it
and call it a weasel

Re: Oops.
NB wouldn't have had a choice. To my knowledge - no one on our list has a NB boot sponsorship. That's the interesting thing with this deal - when Adidas took over Hawthorn's kit deal ... they tied-in a boot deal with Cyril so that he could be the face of the ads also, create a new kids line of boots. NB haven't done anything of the like with us (yet). Pretty much all of our gun kids are ASICS and Nike.
Also - the biggest faux pas is the shite design on the new jumpers. Fvck me - they're flat out terrible - especially that bizarre black panel above the shoulders which looks completely naff on the red panel side of the jumper.

Re: Oops.
NB would just be stoked they're being mentioned in the same breath as Nike.
Nike should send them a bill.

No different to Messi wearing Adidas boots and wearing a Nike Barcelona top
Or Ronaldo wearing Nike boots and wearing an Adidas Juventus top
Media trying to be smart but failing hard ...... easy free advertising for the club

Re: Oops.
What I do to "beat" the paywall is copy the heading of the article and then paste into google. It will then bring up half a dozen or so of different links to your article. Click on them one at a time (obviously not the Herald Sun link in this case), and eventually you will get one that allows you to see the whole article without a subscription. This works all the time for me for The Age. Not sure if it works for The Herald Sun as I have a subscription.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Sun 06 Dec 2020 6:52pmNo offence, but if you are going to post paywalled links I would suggest posting a paragraph or two which you are 100% allowed to do so we know what the gist of it is.

Re: Oops.
serious rubbish alert
at least the mentioned above are wearing the respective sponsorship logos
there must be some new kids at the club without boot deals - put them in the NB boots - surely
And if you watched the advert itself - visually it smacks of amateur hour at best - piece of dog doo if you were to be honest
Cant wait for next years AFL Auskick promotional video with all the kids wearing A-League gear
