Official - Ed Phillips not offered a contract for 2021
It’s on the website
Sucks. Really sucks. Thought he made some really good progress this year and looked far more likely than most of our small forward brigade as player that could get touches in the middle and kick goals resting forward

I think it's just a result of bad timing, as there are players half way through contracts who I would rather get rid of before Ed.

Have to think Hawthorn will benefit from this, offering him a rookie list spot. The two brothers with huge motivation.
I agree he's unlucky. He's unlucky we erred in offering others contracts they did not / do not deserve.

He's no good and if he had a extra year that would be another year wasted for us.

Dan McKenzie is a much better player and he can't get a game.

Curly, are you related to Dan, is your name real name Barry ?

Always hope.
He could be picked up as a delisted free agent, or if not, saints could rookie him if they really did not want to delist him but were forced by list numbers.

I'm disappointed for him but IMO just didn't really have what it takes to be a regular player. Great athlete but don't think he had the football nous to go with it.

Re: Official - Ed Phillips not offered a contract for 2021
Carlisle and Lonie have unsigned contracts on their tables.
Clavarino, Marsh and Savage may NOT have contracts on their tables.
At least one more must be delisted but could be reclaimed as rookies.

Re: Official - Ed Phillips not offered a contract for 2021
Tend to agree with you Curly. If I were to search back for my post from the bushfire appeal match v Hawks at Morwell in February (but I can't be tagged) I gave Phillips a pretty tough critique and didn't rate him as the standard we needed. He had his chances this season but came up short. A victim of the shrunken list.

Dan isn't great but he has more ability than Phillips. Phillips ball skills are terrible.

Re: Official - Ed Phillips not offered a contract for 2021
Dan Mc has finished top 10 in the BnF something Ed Phillips is simply not good enough to achieve IMO. Dan is likely to be delisted at the end of this contract as he has progressed from that top 10 finish.

Savage being looked at by GWS , so that may well be the additional delisting which occurs.

Are you reading the tripe you're writing? You'd struggle to find another player in the entire AFL who is a worse kick than McKenzieCURLY wrote: ↑Tue 17 Nov 2020 12:11pmDan isn't great but he has more ability than Phillips. Phillips ball skills are terrible.

Phillips is putrid by hand and foot. McKenzie at least can play in multiple positions has pace and his good overhead.

... who then gives it straight back to the oppo. Given both McKenzie and Phillips were both fit to play all year ... why did Phillips get picked 4 times this year and McKenzie none?CURLY wrote: ↑Tue 17 Nov 2020 2:03pmSaintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 17 Nov 2020 1:56pmAre you reading the tripe you're writing? Re: Official - Ed Phillips not offered a contract for 2021
As with all these decisions, we have to rely on the coaches and list managers to decide what is best for the club, and as much as we may have liked what few games we saw Ed Phillips play this year, they are in a far better position to make these judgments than armchair critics.
Yes he could be rookied in the event that he is not picked up by another club, time will tell....
And yes, times like this we can shake our heads and wonder why Daniel McKenzie was given another 3 years in 2019, but it would not make sense to delist him if he is still entitled to be paid to end 2022. Doubt if he's on a big pay packet....

I think you are right Curly. Bad luck for Phillips, but imo McKenzie is a better player, and if Savage goes, could well be needed.CURLY wrote: ↑Tue 17 Nov 2020 2:44pmDifferent roles I assume.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 17 Nov 2020 2:29pm... who then gives it straight back to the oppo. DMac is certainly capable of some clangers, and that is what supporters seem to remember, plus the day he was beaten by Cameron, which has happened to plenty of defenders. His disposal efficiency is the second highest at the club for those who average over 10 disposals, behind Wilkie. So not often straight back to the opposition. Top 10 in the B & F with only 13 games. He may yet surprise some supporters, I hope he gets a good go at it. Was emergency quite often in 2020. Has better stats than Long, who really needs to settle down a bit to avoid suspensions. DMac is facing an uphill battle, but is quite capable of replacing Long for instance. Anyway, when Geary goes, we will need someone to execute the dangerous chaos kick into our fast forward line - DMac.
