Re: Parker delisted
I happen to agree with the Club, you don't. That is 2 to 1 against you. You might be able to recruit Matty to your own Club should you crack it completely and start your own team.SaintPelican66 wrote: ↑Sat 07 Nov 2020 6:23pmJust because the club makes a decision does not mean it is correct. You as a St Kilda supporter should know this very well.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Sat 07 Nov 2020 5:43pmWe will be forever grateful that you are not StKilda's list manager. Feel free to disagree with my assessment but, obviously, the Club's thinking is more in tune with my opinion than it is with yours.SaintPelican66 wrote: ↑Sat 07 Nov 2020 5:18pmI don't agree. He is exactly the X factor we need. Much better than Kent, Hind and Lonie. All he needed was a fair run which he didn't get. I hope he gets picked up by someone else and at least gets a fair chance.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Sat 07 Nov 2020 3:22pm There's a lot of love for Matty Parker on here and I wish him well.
Unfortunately, there are also a lot of misguided comparisons of him with other Saints players. Yes, he played a manic and exciting style but, too often, that resulted in dropped marks, high tackles, missed goals and arguing with the umpire while his opponent ran away with the ball. More than any other season, this year exposed and magnified his deficiencies.
Great bloke, colourful character and solid citizen but just not quite up to the standard the Club needs of its players to carry it forward. Good luck Matt.

Re: Parker delisted
For the way he was hyped and for what ever the effect of the ‘feel good’ story buzz in the media, followed by continuous selection vs the way he was dropped and never allowed back in...apart from those couple of games...it is sad.
I just wonder if he could have become a running player, or a run with player, rather than a position specialist, had he stayed. Perhaps he could get redrafted? I doubt he would be worth much on the market, so it could be curtains for his career, and by the sounds, he might nit have much to fall back on...so it’s a shame.

Re: Parker delisted
I reckon when Parker came back in the team late this year, he was trying ‘too hard’ instead of trusting his ability and game - this leads to overrunning the ball and not kicking well with a relaxed motion. Keeping an AFL contract was very important to him. I hope he gets another chance.

Re: Parker delisted
Disappointing outcome to delist Parker while we still have list cloggers like McKenzie, Joyce and Kent taking up a spot. If we could find a club to take some of Dunstan, Lonie, Webster or Roberton we probably would have kept Parker.
Given his athleticism, size, speed, mongrel and goal nous I would have preferred to keep him for another year and see what he could do in a proper season.

Re: Parker delisted
So he has been delisted and not offered a contract.
But he has two hail mary's
1. Another club grabs him as a delisted free agent
2. St Kilda quietly grabs him in the rookie draft.
Sadly both unlikely.

Re: Parker delisted
Yep.
Looks like a hard luck story.
Port Melbourne?
Maybe a return west?
Still thought he was unrealized talent.
Am sticking to my hypothesis .....Kent follows the rules, so gets picked.
Parker doesn’t and so doesn’t..
.. or didn’t so won’t.
...unless redrafted, but from the sounds, it’s sayonara.
What hope is there of being picked up in a buyers market like this?
If they make a Tassie team...?

Re: Parker delisted
Good Luck Parker.
He has great xfactor about him. Brilliant at best (but can be woeful).
Issue is that he is undisciplined which can be excused if the xfactor makes up the difference. Realistically just doesnt see the ball enough.
His age means that what we see is his best. Will not be close to getting picked now with the new recruits.
There are others on the fringe with more flexibility in what roles they can play within the side (Savage, Kent, Lonie, Marsh, McKenzie)
