Re: we dodged a bullet - Jack Steven
I get the feeling we, and the Cats, knew exactly where he was at, and the chances of him getting back to anything approaching his best (not good), hence the trade. Unfortunately he was worth what we got for him.

I disagree, we clearly won that trade hands down as a salary dump and a pick that went toward the Hill trade.

Really hope the former players group at St Kilda makes contact with Jack, seems like he might be going through some hard times and could use some support...

Even if we have no interest in him as a player you'd like to think the club would reach out to him in some way.

That's definitely an aspect to reviewing the end of Jack's career in it's entirety

Well, he can be even closer to his family now. He was underwhelming this year. Football is one of those sports where once you take the foot off the gas (by drinking gallons of beer and eating a truckload of pies in this case) it's near impossible to get back to where you were beforehand. A sad end to an impressive career. Hope he keeps his head together through this.

Re: we dodged a bullet - Jack Steven
Chris Scott had said publicly that they gave Steven a plan with benchmarks etc and (at the time of interview) he had been on track with everything.
He appeared to be putting in the work.
I have a close family member that had some personal issues and he thought 'things would improve' by moving to a new city.
But his issues weren't solved because a lot were self-caused.
Feel sad for Jack

We could pick up Jack for almost nothing, and to 'stick it up Geelong', they would be paying the majority of his salary.

Aren't we still paying some of Pisshead's salary?

Re: we dodged a bullet - Jack Steven
Not any more.
His contract with us finished this year.
He basically extended his contract to a second year at Geelong when he moved there. It’s their problem now.

Re: we dodged a bullet - Jack Steven
I was one of the ones that suggested Jack could flourish at Geelong and be more productive down there. So I suppose we don’t know what has happened there. He wasn’t actually terrible in his few runs with them, was he? But then ‘something happened’ by the looks and Chris Scott said something about Jack having to get where he needs to be. Well I suppose it wasn’t happening or fate conspired anyway. Alas, a good career overall. Hope he can find his feet somehow.

The rear view mirror is 5% the size of your windscreen, as it is proportionate for how much time we should spend looking forward and in reverse.
I recall a poster on this site suggesting jack was worth two first round picks when traded to Geelong, it is now apparent the football industry was well aware jack has significant issues.
I wish the very best for Jack and Paddy Mc for that matter, but we are finally on the right path let's not look backward and consider these two former players.

Getting paid to not play football? I think Jack will be in his element...

We should offer Geelong pick 100 for Steven providing they pay for half his salary.

Re: we dodged a bullet - Jack Steven
I hear Jack also dodged a bullet .
As well as a couple of arrows , a datsun 180b , a small porcelain figurine of a cat , three pair of scissors and a box set of friends on dvd .
But up close and personal its hard to see the shiv coming .

Might be time for Fat Jack to create an alternative source of future income.

What ever Jack has become off field he is a bit of a mess. I wonder what the club could have done better to guide him in his formative years?
